Tint shop damaged my car and didn't tell me!!!

BBB does nothing dude, my friends mom took her older jetta to the volkswages dealer for an oil change an that told her that her transmission was going bad so they fixed that s*** and then they said the timing belt broke, me and my friend have worked on her car and it was fine, they screwd her out of thousands of dollars and in the end the car broke down a week after the repairs and it sitting in that damn vw dealer for weeks now and we've contacted the BBB and they did nothing!!!!

If they are making fictitious repairs then you need to call an attorney. If they have the car now and are NOT working on it then you need to call VWNA. If they let her take it they are responsible for what happens to her if there is some kind of failure and she gets into an accident and is hurt or someone else is hurt.

Well, all in all could be worse I guess. Do what you do LuckyKelleyK. Sorry this has happened to your nice car and hope it works out.

Thanks, I mostly just needed to vent. I feel less crazy now...lol. It just sucks because my car is brand new and I felt so violated by this. You are right though, could be worse!

from my experience the tint gets precut on the outside of the windows and then gets installed on the interior.

something slightlly similar happened to my wife.. she got her car tinted and one day when I was washing it I noticed that the rubber part along the bottom of the glass had been scored by a razor... inside and outside and all around, some parts had even been cut off in the corner... she was pretty pissed.. of course, I didnt notice until after we were married and she had moved 4 hrs from home.. nothing we can do about it now.

Its a very hard thing to notice small damage like that when you put your trust in a shop to do something that they specialize in and do daily..

(It sucks that its on the passenger side of the car, if it was on the driver's side I would have noticed much sooner)

Sounds to me like someone doesnt wash her car enough :P

I'm just teasing...this really sucks I would feel violated too. They should at least pay for it in my opinion. I wouldnt let them install it though. If they are worth their salt they will admit to the wrongdoing and realize that 50 bucks is a small price to pay for customer satisfaction. Have you confronted them about it yet? Nice and Calmly?

Hope it all works out...

Haha to tell you the truth I have washed my car since, I just didn't notice I guess. I haven't talked to them yet, I will post an update! Ideally I hope they just send me a check for the part, I really don't want to have to drive down there AGAIN (its like an hour away). The part is special order too. We will see!

Tell you what I will buy the part if you have your dad powdercoat my calipers for me :-P

I may be able to get it cheaper than 48.77 through the parts guy at Ferrari. Their cost is probably way better. When I damaged my Mazdaspeed Protege the Fender and other pieces were like $40 dollars cheaper than I could find anywhere else. Do you know the part number?

No, I don't know it, but I can definitely get it! Going to talk to the tint shop tomorrow, so we will see. I don't think you would really want to ship your calipers off would you? ;-)

I would buy an extra set off a wrecked Speed 3, strip em down and send them to you. I was already thinking about powdercoating them myself though as it sounds like a fun project.

I can't wait to get my CP-E Intake. I am either going to make my own custom airbox from Carbon Fiber with a Gold Tape Heat Shield to deflect the heat or my buddy has also suggested some Nasa heat deflection stuff he can get a hold of...apparently it deflects heat up to 1400F and keeps anything on the other side pretty damn cold. It looks like aluminum but has Nasa Logos all over it. Was thinking about maybe shielding intercooler from header heat also. We shall see.

Just get me the part number and I will make a call tommorow.

Cheers

P

Wow, sounds like a fun project! I should have my calipers powdercoated this weekend, so I will post pics for you. I will get you the part number asap, and thank you!

I just wanted to comment that you are exactly right! When I was there the guy kept asking me questions about the car in a weird way and I got a little suspicious. I wish I would have stayed and watched but I didn't want to be rude or make them feel uncomfortable. I suppose I should start looking out for my own interests more often......

This situation is only compounded by the fact , and I hate to say this, that you are a woman, therefore they probably thought they could get away with it a little easier...I hate that women get victimized or tried to be taken advantage of purely because mechanics, salesmen, TINT SHOPS etc think they they get away with it.

I generally dont let anybody else do work that I can't do myself, and hate leaving my car anywhere. But if I absolutely have to I make a tech or whomever do a walk around with me BEFORE and AFTER. I am fair though I point out where the little paint chips are etc and write them all down and let him have a look to see what he can find those get written down too then we both sign it. That way if it comes back with a big door ding, "Hey, that wasnt there before, and if it was then you didnt notice it and thats your problem..."

on the right side

Nice job with the "John Madden" circle. yea, i'd make them pay for that. and how could they have been clumsy enough to break that?

Okay heres an update:
My husband spoke with the manager. He said that what most likely happened was that one of his employees broke it and didn't tell him. He was willing to sight unseen replace the part for us. Since he was so nice about it, my husband said that we would replace the part if they were willing to offer us 50 dollars off a tint job on our other car. So, thats what happened! I am pleased with their customer service, and will continue to recommend them to other people.

Wow, that is quite the oposite to my experiences with the BBB. I have seen lemon laws and buy backs happen through the BBB with little to no issues. Maybe it is how you handle it with the BBB then that makes it smoother. I dont know. Even by filing a complaint with the BBB they HAVE to investigate it and it goes on the companys record. If/when people investigate a company through the BBB (which everyone should be doing especially with service companys for you car or house) you will see those complaints or charges against them. I think you would be surprised how messed up some companys that you have used or regularly use are and will not use them any more.

I too called the BBB when i took my old 240sx into the dealership to have it repaired. they cracked my aftermarket front end (i found out after i got the car home maybe 10 minutes after i picked it up)and refused to pay for it. the BBB did nothing. they are a waste of time

to OP im glad everything worked out for you.

BBB worked for my grandma, she is old and couldnt tell certain thins and god screwed out of $1200, someone else at another shop noticed what the place had done and contacted BBB for her and she got refunded $1200.
