tint questions

I've had my black pr5 for about 4 months, and I am really getting tired of returning to an oven after work (absolutely no shade on lot) I've been using the fold up windshield covers, but they don't really seem to help. Thus I'm looking at having one of the shops in town tint my windows. I know the legal limit in MD is 35% and that is what I intend to get, and I know to go for the metal and not dyed type.

the big question is, what type of metal would be most effective at keeping out the heat

also, I've done a search through the posts for tinting info, and I was curious if anyone knew what the silver types of tint look like on a black car compared to the standard black tint. I want something that looks nice and still works

I got the rear windows tinted with 5% metal (not that dye crap). I hate the silver tint on any car really. There is a silver p5 running around here with silver tint and it is horrible looking. If i was you id just get the black tint.

i would love to get the rears at 5%, but that would just scream for the cops to give me sh*t if they wanted to. the limit is 35, and I'm not balzy enough to push it.

hey i just got mine done on the mp3, 20 back and rear windows. front windows 35. it looks nice. i would just get the black tint....it works(wiggle)

also, for anyone out there in maryland, are there any steps that have to be done besides going to the shop. some of the tint law sites talk about stickers being required

EVERY tint shop will have the little stickers that they apply to the drivers door windown right at the bottom that states that the tint applied meets the requirements of the law...and it NORMALLY has the shops name that put it on too.

most places that i know that say a minimum of 35% tint usually requires that only the front windows be tinted that way, the back can windows can usually be any other darkness right down to limo black. i have 28% all around and haven't really run into any problems yet.......more noticeable when it's cloudy, but even 35% tint is dark in cloudy weather......

I'm getting 20% put on my red p5. I had it on my last car and I thought it was perfect for me. If you have picky cops then I'd go by the law.

when i got mine done they told me that 35% all the way around was the legal limit and the only way for it to be legal is to register it,but that might only be in maryland

I've got limo tint on my back windows and nothing on the front. From everything you've said it sounds like the laws in Maryland and Georgia are the same. My windows have been done since January and I have not been harrassed by the cops. So I would think unless you haul ass everywhere and scream pull me over you could go illegal on the back and be alright.

Law here in Quebec says that you can PAINT the rear windows but no more than 20% tint in the front (they are already at 15% from Mazda). You are also allowed to have a 6 inches wide strip of tint on the upper part of the windshield.

I have 35% in the rear and 20% up front and the windshield strip, nothing on the hatch window (can't see well enough at night). I had this done using "RAYBAN" tint, looks nice, and effective enough.

Ummm, I think you have it backwards. The tint % number actuallly means the % of light transmitted . So a 20% tint is darker than 35. So I think you mean you have 20% in the rear and 35% in the front (which are the legal limits in many places). If you are going to go to the trouble of posting, at least post proper information so you don't confuse people. Bad information is worse than no information.

I just got mine done with 35% "premium" tint front & back. I was told that's the legal limit in Ontario. However, beware that different type of tint looks different even with the same percentage. The guy at the shop showed me another 30% tint that looks quite a bit darker but less reflective. You really need to see the film to decide.

PS: I would definitely get black tint!

Heres another trick of the trade. The only way a cop or someone can tell if the tint is legal is by rolling the window down and putting there little thingamabob (technical term) over the window both inside and out to get the percentage. Now for the very back window they can not roll it down so how they going to know? sure they can get very picky if they want and just ive you a ticket without proof and it'll get throw outta court 99% of the time. Mine is getting done this way as we speak. 50% front 35% backs all legal limit for Virginia but the back back window will be somewhere around 15-20%. Guy at the tint place here told me about this and said thats how his car and everyone who works there have theres and said never had a problem.

Also after looking at my car and drooling over it thought it would look very good with the "Triple Fade" tint job as they call it. So heres hoping, get my baby back after work today.

tint

in New Hampshire the take your Drivers license and put it behind the glass and if they can read it from the out side then your ok ... but i am saving to get mine done and its gonna cost me abotu $400 take a look this is where i got the idea from call me a copy cat if you want but i think its PHATTTTTTTTT

i think 20% is fine that was the first thing i did to my baby and im always nx to cops and infact ive been pulled over by cops only for them to say hey ur cars is really nice. never bugged about my titn i wish i had gotten 5% now. i think we can get away w/ it because we have sports wagons, like i said i have 20% all around and even my front windshield. thats just me opinion but do what u have to do, oh and i have the platinum tint my car isnt that hot anymore wen i get in. seems to work well.

Yea another thing I was told last night when I picked my car up is that "Multi-Purpose Vehicales" in Virginia can get the backs at 20%

So now my baby is done 50% up front and 20% all around on the backs. Very nice.
