what milage should u change the timing belt? im at 94,000. and the previous owner never changed it. so im thinking 100,000... is there anything i should do like at a 100,000mile tune-up? thanks a lot

People do them anywhere in the 60,000 to 105,000 mile range. So you are pushing the upper limits of longevity. A fresh set of NGK plugs,PCV and replacing or cleaning the air filter wouldn't hurt. I'd run some Seafoam through it via the PCV vacuum hose and also put some in the gas tank. You could also change your transaxle gear oil.

How is the car running overall?

Nice suggestions! I would also say that you should inspect/replace your other belts, brake fluid, and steering fluids.

Seafoam FTW!

Since you are at it, replace the main crank seal, and cam seals for preventative maintenance.

the car runs really good.. what is seafoam?...the plugs was changed 5,000miles ago...i got a price, is 720.00 too much to do a timing belt change.. that includes, water pump, drive belts... and someother stuff....thanks a lot

I'll be changing my timing belt at 75000 miles, after what I just saw on my wifes car. Her timing belt (98000k on her Ford Contour) lost about 6 inches of teeth and was still working .... barely. So, I'll be replacing mine at the manufacturers suggested mileage.

There's a bunch of things you should replace at the same time as the timing belt, because you have to take apart a bunch of crap to get to it. It can be argued that all these don't need to be replaced, especially at 75k, but why the hell not since they last 75k. Here's my shopping list:

Timing belt tensioner
Spring tensioner
Idler
Timing belt
Main crank seal
Cam shaft seals
Water pump
Thermostat

Seafoam is a product that has been around since the late 40's and it used to decarbon the upper cylinders and in the gas tank to clean the injectors. Its $6.99 available from AutoZone or other parts stores.

I guess it all depends on exactly what parts the shop is putting in as to whether or not $720 is too much. The parts alone to do it correctly would run close to half of that amount.

It was $650 for my wife's car for the water pump, timing belt, idler pulley, accessory belts, new battery installed. $720 sounds like it's a bit steep.

720.00 is a little hight i was thinking... but if i can buy my own parts it might be cheaper... u guys have a OEM mazda website that i can buy timing belt etc.....thanks a lot

Check the the main sponsor section. You have choices with OEM parts:

www.protegegarage.com
www.mazdapartszone.com
www.onlinemazdaparts.com

If you don't see the parts on their website you can PM the sponsor on here or post a thread in their section. Any of the three should be able to get all fo the parts needed.

There is also a thread on changing the belt yourself but personally I do not have the patience or time. I am currently buying parts for my third timing belt tune up. I have just short of 200K miles.

DIY... Doesnt take too long.. Autozone has a gatorback timing belt.. I posted a thread on here for alldata.. With a username and pw., all the info on how to is in there.. Might wanna get a second person to help hold the crank pulley.. And be sure not to lose the tension spring.. Shouldnt take but an hr or 2.. At least thats how long it took my cuz and i to fix mine and we had to start from scratch..
