as the title says, my stock sp9000s have like no tread left. anyone get some good tires u really like? I want a very sticky tire with a good tread rating, but has to perform decent in rain/water...

with that said, any ideas?

Well, I'll chime in I guess....
I got the NITTO Neo-Gen 205/40/17's a few weeks ago. Mostly been in dry weather, but it did rain a few times last week. I never felt them slipping or losing grip, and when I can get it to break loose burning out, you can tell they are trying to hold the road. I got a pretty good deal on them, but they will run you about $400. Check out a pic of them, and you'll see what I mean about the tread...Very aggressive design.

without a doubt...

the YOKAHOMA AVS ES 100's you might as well be in a slot car!

they handle really well on both dry and wet roads.

negative ghost rider... i'm sorry nuke but i'm not impressed with the es100's. they grip alright but i'd rather have Azenis..

problem is, we can't run 17" azenis withou rubbing

i am in the market for tires myself. thinking of kumho 712. good treadwear rating as well as traction and temp for very little money.

im going for the Khumo Esta 712...gitting some myself...for $61 a peace from tirerack.com u cant go wrong and many of my friends run them and they take a long time to wear out, and also kick major ass in the rain, they grip as good in the rain as they do in dry.

Tire Recommendations

I'm with Sir Nuke. I also have the Yokohama AVS ES 100's in 205/45-16 size. As he said, they are great in both wet and dry and provide great handling.

i've got the Yoko AVS ES100's (205/40-17) and they're pretty good, but not great. as people have said, they're amazing in the wet and give good grip on dry roads, but they don't seem to respond really well to quick steering inputs. whether it's sidewall flex or something else, i'm not sure. still, i think they are great tires for the money.

I have the Pradas and they are awsome in the rain. We used to go out during heavy down poors and just start hitting pudles at 40-45 to see how high we could get the water to spray. Under normal driving conditions there were never any problems no squeeling or loss of grip. I think I'm switching to the fk451's next. I want to try something different. One of my friends had a P5 with the goodyear F1's and they were sick too. It is all in how much money you want to spend. I personally hate the kumos. You definatly get what you pay for with those, cheap tires.

I currently have the Kuhmo 711s. Treadwear seems to be excellent. At 6k miles there is no noticible wear at all. My old SPs would have been about 1/3 down by now. Tires are about as grippy as the Dunlops, and the noise isn't bad at all. All around I would give this tire an 8.5. Wet grip isn't what the Dunlops was, but at 1/3 the price, what can I expect?!
As for grippy tires, go for Kuhmo MXs. From what I've heard, they put the Azenis to shame. A little more $$, but a lot better tire, and they are rumored to get better with both time and temperature.
The 712s are also a good tire. I've known a lot of people that like them.
You may also look into the Bridgestone Pole Position SO3s. They are amazing.
Good luck finding an Azenis that fits, let alone that's not on back order. They are getting overwhelmed with orders and are hard to get right now, and with SCCA Solo II Nationals coming up, I can't imagine the wait getting better any time soon.
Good luck! Let us know what you decide on.

I too have the nitto neo gens and are very satisfied so far. They are fairly new but have had a chance to test the dry and wet conditions. They are a little pricy but inho you get what you pay for when it comes to tires. I would recommend them.

Another vote for the ES100's..

Best bang for the buck around, no doubt....

712s aren't all that great at all... and they're heave as hell too..

The exact tire I have. They do better than the kuhmo's in the rain.

FYI, sumitomos SUCK in wet, and they're noisier than most. I also think the AVS's are a little quieter than the kuhmos I ran. But the difference was next to nothing.

i think we might be forgetting some things. location where we live and drive, quality and type of pavement, temperature, amount of rain, load is different for every person here. so one tire for one might bad for another person. nobody really tests these tires very well taking into accout ALL possible conditions and combinations of road conditions. the only rating is a UTQG. by researching, I found kumhos to be the best for the price I am willing to/can pay.
