Time for new struts - recommendations?

Personally, if I'm not going to be autoxing or open tracking my Protege, then I'll replace my struts with new Blues when they wear out. No need in my opinion to spend the extra money on adjustable struts to drive on the street- how often are you actually going to adjust them anyway? And even if they are adjusted frequently, getting the correct settings for the conditions will be more hassle than it's worth.

I adjust mine often but I go to the canyon ofter. Plus with the hatch it is easier to adjust. But like I said if you are doing nothing but daily don't bother doing anything to the car. I regret modding mine with all these damn noises it makes.

^^^Which is precisely the lesson I learned from my Saturn. Although my website doesn't reflect it (hasn't been updated in a loooong time), the car's interior has been stripped, stiff suspension in place, loud free flowing exhaust, stereo removed, AC removed, fixed back racing seat, lightweight flywheel and race clutch. All those factors add up to a car that is tremendously fun to drive on track, but a car that is almost painful to drive on the street. My goal for my Protege is to have a fun to drive street car with lots of sound deadening, air conditioning, a good stereo and overall just an enjoyable car to drive and be in.

Wow.... soo much blah blah here. This is sad.
The MP3 was and still is a car that was designed to handle amazingly and not cost alot! It was in Road and Track up against 10 other cars, like BMWs, Porches, Mercedes, Ferraris and so on. It was the cheapest car out of all of them and it did out perform the 911 in the slalom. And hung with the rest in the corners. Just obviously lacking the power to get out of the turns to catch up with the rest. All I can say is, hell... I paid 10K and I can out hang with cars that cost $80k in the turns.... that makes me happy as hell! The car isn't perfect, the supsension does have its flaws. But for the price... we don't have the right to even start complaining. Find a car that can handle this well for the same price.... .... .... .... exactly! Anywho....

I say Illuminas, I need new shocks too. And I'm willing to fork out the bit more for the upgrade and adjustablility.

Boy, you ask a simple question....(bang) ! I bought the MP3 since it reminded me of my old BMW 1600 (great handling)

I'll check out the Illuminas. I'm almost afraid to ask if anyone has a preferred place to buy them.

Bob

lol It was a simple question wasnt it. Alot of these guys own P5's and think they know what they are talking about when it comes to the MP3. Someone said that they have too much body roll... Send me over some of that smoke dude, seems like some good s*** you got there if you felt any body roll on a MP3. Maybe you're buddies struts where shot. I still think the originals would be your best choise, although, i have no experiance with the Illumina's and alot of people out there seem to like them. I'm all for being able to adjust your suspenssion, but I think that the MP3 shouldnt be tweeked too far from original...

bondo bob, shoot me a pm if you are still looking for suspension i will take care of ya :)
