Thumping sound while shifting.

I have 300 miles on my speed3, and am hearing a thump sound when shifting from 1st to second, and then second to third, then the sound less pronounced.

I think I could be having issues with the syncros. Any ideas or feedback would be appreciated.

Remover your airbox and check the tranny mount bolt. There is a thread in this forum about a problem with that bolt being loose on some peoples speed 3's.

I think its both, but I would get that checked asap or your engine may fall out and cause a s*** load of damage.

Thanks d-c, I stand corrected. I just didn't have the time to find the original thread. By the way, I have been hearing the thump the past couple of days too. Wonder if it is from all my acceleration, boost and flat-shifting tests!

I have the same thing and I will be checking that bolt today. Tranny seems noisy as well???

I took the car into the dealer today, and they don't know what the thumping sound is. Shocking....Anyway, they gave me a rental, and said they would probably have to bring in a Mazda engineer to diagnose the problem.

Again, I appreciate the words of advice.

Whoa, if they gave you a rental it's cause they're sure they'll be reimbursed. Be interesting to see what it is. Could be loose tranny bolt no. 4.
