throwing eggs at cars?

I just drove home 6 hours for the holidays. On the way home I hear this loud BANG! I say, oh s***, I'm doing 80mph, hope nothing broke :D . Well I look at my rear window and there is s*** splattered all over it. When I got home I just hosed off whatever it was, I didn't want to leave it on my car overnight, but I couldn't really see what it was, even with a flashlight. Whatever it was hit the car on the rear door around the C-pillar (I think?) and left a fat dent on the door around the window and the cpillar itself. Pretty nasty. At first I thought it was a bird or something but my friend told me it was probably an egg. So the question is, WTF, who would throw an egg at a car doing 80mph at midnight on the freeway? And where did they throw it from? And why did they have to **** up my back door?

Just so you know, if anyone ever throws anything at your car while you're driving, they can be convicted of assault with a deadly projectile. It might sound funny, but a person could panic & swerve off the road, possibly causing an accident.

Glad that you're ok, but that sucks. It doesn't sound like a person did it though based on how you described it.

I dunno, I'll have to see in the morning what exactly it was. But I washed most of it off (or at least I think I did). And, yeah, it was loud as hell when it hit. I was afraid I might have broken something. I didn't really know what to do but keep going. I saw the splatter a couple seconds later.

There is no explanation why people do ignorant things like that. They are just assholes who have nothing better to do and get there kicks from stupid s***. Someone threw a chunk of concrete the size of a basketball at my Z24 while I was driving back in 1990. Crushed in the whole rear fender behind the door. My (at that time) wife was in the car with me and if it was thrown a second sooner and just a little higher she would have been seriously hurt or possibly killed.

Back home in Miami a few years ago, there were kids throwing rocks and concrete off the ramp above the interstate and it sent someone to the hospital. They were around 10 years old. Kids do stupid things when they're bored and their parents dont care. But almost always it's kids or little gang bangers doing s*** like that.

my friend was driving his 1g eclipse and a rock went through his sunroof and smashed it. they cought the kids b.c a cop was going over the bridge and saw them .

last summer a kid threw a huge rock at a van and it went in the window, knocked out the driver and his van drove into the side of a grocrey store and i think like 2 people died or something .

its crazy what people do for fun, i never did that crap, maybe its b.c i was tought better

those damn video games make it seem like cars can take a beating and not hurt anyone...the kids haven't made it to physics class yet...and more than likely, their mom is home nailing the mailman, stoned to the bejeesus, and the dad is gone...

I feel 1hour older every minute that goes by :)

"why back when I was a kid, we'd make up our own games, like chew the bark off the tree..." (old old saturday night live skit)

Sorry to hear about the dent, that sucks. at least you're ok though...just think, a couple inches higher and earlier, you may have a cracked windshield which could have turned into a messy accident @ 80mph...always trying to find the silver lining :)

just an utter and disturbing lack of respect. maybe if we were still "allowed" to beat our kids (within reason, of course) they'd fear the consequences of their actions........just my worthless opinion.
(cheers)

Similar thing happened near Allentown, PA last winter. Except it was an 18 pound chunk of ice and woman was killed instantly in front of her husband and 3 kids. The culpret was a 15 y/o kid.

Sorry to here about that Charles.:(

I had some guys throw grapefruits at me in my P-5 one time. I chased those f#ckers around there neighborhood for a while till they jumped a fence and I lost them. Kinda funny. Those kids s*** there pants when they saw me turn around to chase them. lol

I feel for you Charles. I've been there and had have my A pillar painted and blended. I was without the car for a week and had sanded paint shavings all over the car after the work was done that took weeks to get out.

I just read about your incident, Heathen and I don't think people realize how much damage an egg at that velocity can do. I mean, think about it, an egg is one of the strongest shapes on the planet. Because of the double arch configuration it takes much more pressure to crack it, especially when breaking from top to bottom. Maybe that's the point they hit both yours and Charles'.

I dunno, people are ******. Sorry to hear about both of your eggings. It's scary to read about kids dropping things off bridges, especially that woman who died in front of her kids and husband. :( Reminds me of that scene in The Good Son where Culkin drops the dummy off the bridge into traffic causing a huge pile up. People just don't think anymore, it's sad.

Thanks guys. Come morning it doesn't really look that bad. Gimmie a minute and I'll put up pics.

All right I can barely see how these pictures
came out on this archaic monster of a monitor
I have at my parents, but I see the second
one is blurry, sorry about that -- it's not my
camera.

A tiny bit of splatter left

thats about as dumb as throwing rocks at cars from overpasses, and pointing laser pointers at you at night...

both have happened to me :(

Looks very similar to my damage on the windshield weatherstripping and the A-pillar. It warped the weatherstripping and literally blew off the paint. Yours is a bit smaller probably because it was contacted on a less blunt angle but I'm guessing they would have to sand and blend the pillar making it a more substantial repair than it looks (assuming you want it to look new when done).

Thanks heathen... I think I'll just leave it, the car has plenty of bangs and scratches as is... there's one advantage to having an old junk car. :)
