Thoughts on paddle shifters

I've been been driving my '19 GolfR for about...s***, 5 years now and pretty much every time I get in it I wish I would have demanded the 3 pedal manual. The DSG is technically faster, but losing the footwork really sucks.

I don't even bother with the paddles, I just keep the car in race mode at all times and it seems to know where I want to be. Still miss that clutch pedal though!
 
I regularly use the downshift flappy paddle for downshifting, either for engine braking, or to choose a lower gear while climbing a hill. As we Skyactiv owners may be aware, these cars refuse to downshift until you're bogging at like 1100rpm going 40km/h up a hill.
