Thoughts on New Mustang

2 Words.....
THE s***!

The coupe looks good IMO (I Am a die hard mustang fan, owned 5)and if you have not seen the 2 seater convertable that will be offered,SEARCH FOR IT!IT IS FUNK NASTY!
I have been waiting for them to release this car for like two years and i have said for that long that when the 2 seat convert is available I WILL have one parked in the driveway! But that car is at least another year away and is projected to have 400 HP in the new plat form and will be limited production.I beleive it will only be offered in SVT trim unless they change it for marketing reasons and offer a couple of different versions with the SVT being limited production .
IT SHOULD HAUL SERIOUS ASS!
But only two of them:D

why don't you get that ford 200mph "supercar" its less then 150k! what a deal! or you can just go get a supra for around 30 and do a few things and have a 200mph car...

^^^
Because it would still look like a Supra. :p
I love the way the gt looks...it's a mix of muscle and style. But I don't think that I could ever bring myself to pay more than $75k for a car (not to mention that I can't afford to at the moment!)

As for the 'stang....I've never been a huge Mustang fan. I always loved the classic Camaros and Vettes. The original Mustang's purpose was not what today's is, though...Using some of the styling cues from the previous era, though, sparks some nostalgia for simpler times. I don't think that it will make the Mustang the "every man's" car as it was initally designed, but it'll give the car nuts something to feel better about.

As for my personal feelings on the design: Front is awesome...rear is too flat...and it *really* needs that spoiler there. Also...the bumper seems too big, like it has too much junk in the trunk. That seems to throw off the stance of the car and it just looks too...flat. And what is up with that hideous freakin' green color!!?!?!

Well we may never see the new Mustang here in Oz, which is a shame. I think it looks major horn, the shiznit....

For me the 69 Mach 1 is my all-time favourite looking car, bar none and it is amodernisation of that for sure.

Remember there are VERY few of them here, so a bit "exotic", they were never all over the place.

So this update is waaaaay cool.

The existing Mustang is sold here at a ridiculous price (try $A85k) at the Ford dealer with RHD conversion and a bunch of things to set it for local use.
The quality is very poor (nowhere near a Mazda.....) and for the price they are kidding.

But if I could put something in the driveway that looked like that I certainly would.....

At first I didn't like the way the concept looked.

But, the "finished" version at the auto show looks nice. I hate it that they will put a V6 in that thing, but the V8 looks promising. And it'll be cool to see what they do for the GT version.

Looks awesome.. saw it last year at the All Ford Nationals in Carlisle. The designer also did the Audi TT so I really am interested in how the interior looks. That's one of my biggest gripes about the present model: cheesy plastic interior - vast wasteland of plastic etc etc. (My wife has an 03 Cobra.. no complaints about the power)

I am going to buy one when it comes out... definitely.... anyword on power etc?

no doubt that I will test drive it and prob buy it if I like the way it drives ... I have been waiting many years for FORD to finally change the drawn out mustang style.

GT is 300 HP 4.6L V8

Base is 200HP 3.8L V6

SVT??

Shelby is making his closing debute with the GT 500 . . . Now that is what I'M interested in! *starts saving pennies*

i'm not a fan of mustangs, but i really like the way the new one looks.. never thought i would say that.. haha.

I like the 2005. Much nicer looking than the old ones. I heard they were NOT able to add the independent rear. Still gunna be solid rear axel.

There are a bunch more close-up pics on stangnet. They did a good job all in all -- personally I like the looks of the current stang better just because I like the more "chiseled" look than the round and bulbous look of the redesign. Still not too bad though. The interior is MUCH nicer but the gauges are still a little small. I like that they added user-selectable lighting to the gauges though - cool feature. And yup II-Savvy, it's solid rear ax for the regular stangs but still 'supposed' to be a IRS for the SVT. So the arguments from the draggers vs the road racers will continue on the axle choice.

I may eventually get the new stang if Ford doesn't lure me into getting a current Mach 1 for super cheap. If I end up getting the redesigned version it definitely won't be in its first year...I'm just not confident that Ford can work out enough of the bugs until a year or 2 later, plus there won't be any good deals on them.

girth - Sit in that MACH1 before you plunk down EVO/STI money for that thing. I felt the interior was WORSE that the SRT. The seats were that "stick to your legs" plastic which looked and felt SUPER cheap. Just my opinion. I do like the shaker hood and 300HP.

What does everybody think of the new Mustang? I think Ford did a good job with the revival of the 60's styling. Definitely an improvement and probably the only American car in my price range I might consider.

I like it with the driving lights but not without.

Also realize that they have HUGE rims on the show car, when the real one comes out it will look much diferent.

I remember the last show car Mustang, it looked great at the show but when it hit the street after production it looked like ass.

heres some info from a member of SVTOA (me).

They chose not to do an IRS. cost, weight, problems with high-torque applications.

Ford will ALWAYS make a V6 base mustang. Check their sale totals. The Mustang is the best selling sports car in Histroy in any country. The V6 mustang accounts for over half of all total mustang sales.

The mustang started its life as a cheap entry-level sportscar for people low on funds. It was heavily marketed to women as they were coming into their "girl-power" during this time. The mustang was a huge hit! There will be a spoiler available for the car. This car is a throw-back to the 1968 model hence the "flat" rear end.

Ford is using a completely new engine with 3valve per cylinder heads. This is technology used by Mercedes to acheive 9.8:1 compression on 87 octane gas. The main reason for this change is that the area under the torque curve is much more robust adding about 20% torque throuought the entire rev range. Another nice fact is that over 85% of all available torque is there at 1500rpms!! holy s***! The base and GT models are done, but the cobra will have several upgrades. I've heard that it will have the IRS, 6-spd tremec from the CobraR and "over 500hp". I've heard rumors of either a direct swap from the 2006 Lightning or just the current 5.0L with the Eaton supercharger, Yes, I know I said 5.0L. Ford has already started assembly of its 5.0L block. It is the same block that s in the 4.6L mustang with a stroker kit to up displacement to 5.0L. Add to that the new 3valve heads AND an eaton SC.....500hp is not a joke.

All Hail the King has returned,

Nice but no IRS just plain sucks ass.

It would be cool if they kep the size of those wheels.
