Thoughts on New Mustang

I'm not a fan of IRS especially for drag racing. Auto cross isn't real popular here.....kinda like hockey isn't popular here. You yanks like different stuff!

live rear is the hands down king of racing. Now the "race model" SVT will come with IRS so it shouldn't be an issue especially with a 200hp advantage over the GT...I think they'll b able to walk em down the track even with a less aggressive launch

I hear ya Matt but in real world driving around ..... IRS is way better. Drag racing = reckless driving which = a misdimeaner(sp).

Yea.....cha ching $$. I bet those suck in the snow. That would be issue, not this year though.

Question is why does the last girl run AT the guy?

A Mustang would suck where I live.

My next car will be a WRX or STI, hands down.

This morning I drove down many un-plowed streets with more than six inches of snow on them.

Oh and just north of me got THREE FEET of snow in the last two days.

Try driving around up there in a Mustang.

There is a writeup on the 2005 Mustang in the Feb. 04 Car and Driver Magazine.

The base price is going to be around 18K for a V6. I don't remember if they had V8 pricing. The V8 is apparently going to be the same one used in the new Ford F-150. Another interesting fact is that they will be assembling them in Mazda's US plant to assure quality control. I thought that was interesting. And yes, there is still a solid live axle in the back. They did modify it a bit with a panhard bar setup.

Personally I love the retro styling of the new Mustang. The gauges are awesome and the colors are adjustable....check out this thread:

Hey, something I just found out from the RX7 club is that Autotrend had several write ups about ford selling the New 300hp V8 for $20K. They way ford described it was that they were selling the GT's for $23.5K and offering $3500 in rebates. They will offer no rebates on the new cars and just sell them from a lower a price point. They said all of the rebates is hurting them and GM. That would make the 202hp V6 about $14-15K what a deal!!

Wow, but the better deal is the V8 for the 20k, wow. Now that's sick. Real rustangs don't have V6's.:D

And Mustangs aren't sports cars...

Muscle cars, yes...Not sports cars. Not a single sports car that I know of uses a live axle, nor has for a long time.

girth - Sit in that MACH1 before you plunk down EVO/STI money for that thing. I felt the interior was WORSE that the SRT. The seats were that "stick to your legs" plastic which looked and felt SUPER cheap. Just my opinion. I do like the shaker hood and 300HP.

Yup, already have. The seats were THE best seats I've ever sat in in ANY car. Incredible side bolstering, adjustable head rests fore and aft....just awesome. That had the "interior upgrade" though -- not sure what the "normal" seats are like. The upgrade seats are leather with like a tuck-and-roll stitch. I can only assume you must have sat in a Mach1 without the interior upgrade Savy.....

I will admit though - outside of the seats the remainder of the interior looked and felt quite cheap (like all Mustangs right now). About the only other thing that stood out was the clutch - stiffest clutch I've ever operated.

Oh, and I wouldn't spend Evo/STI money on a Mach1. The only reason I was seriously considering getting 1 is because they have INCREDIBLE rebates on them right now. 4k rebate on the 03s and 3k rebate on the 04s. Plus the 04s come in orange.:p Not as nice as the spicy, but I like it anyway. With the rebates you can get a Mach1 for 22,900 with the interior upgrade - UNBELIEVABLE price considering I paid 20,500 for the MSP.:(

Almost no car is going to go through 3 feet of snow -- basically nothing has the ground clearance. IMO winter driving is blown way out of proportion -- a Mustang with snows is going to be able to go through basically just as much snow as any other vehicle on the road. Sure something with AWD will handle a little bit better in snow and ice but not that much.

well if IRS is your thing then pop for the cobra. You'll love it if you'ver owned one before.

Just 1 more note on the IRS - some of the guys on stangnet have been complaining about wheel-hop on their Cobras. I don't really understand how that's possible with 390 HP, but that's gotta be a big bummer because big smokey burnouts are half the fun of owning it!

Girth - Yea we had to have sat in different seats, they were Hella crappy, maybe held you nice but Ames/Caldor/Walmart cheap.

Yea the low prices do make them more attractive.

And dude 20.5k Jesus, but you have had it for awhile. I got mine late in the year.

Yeah those DAMN F(*&@% bleeping rebates.....never expected such awesome rebates on a limited car. Sucks for me...good for a lot of other people though.
:( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

After taxes and registration I plunked $23k down out the door...If I could have gotten a WRX at the time, I would have. After almost a year with my MSP, though, I'd take the MSP over the WRX for several reasons...and if you would, too, then you know what they are! ;)
