Thoughts on Clarion DXZ955MC

Kinda spendy for what you're getting, from a true audio standpoint it's really not got allthatmany options considering it's competition, but I've got nothing negative to say about clarion.

For that price, you're really paying for the touch screen and the music catcher feature. However, it does have a 24bit DAC and Dolby Pro Logic II...which are nice features.

If you don't want the music catcher then you could get the DXZ945MP.
If you don't want the Pro Logic II either you could get the DXZ845MP.

So basically, it all boils down to what features you actually want.

Personally, I'd pick the DXZ9255 because it has a 4-way crossover, 8 channel time alignment and a 5 band parametric eq...but that's me. Sure it's expensive...but you are paying for one of the best sounding head units on the market.

that is a sweet deck(first)

The touch screen sucks complete ass to use and generaly functions like poop.

Also, I can't explain why and I know it shouldn't but the pioneer and Alpine decks we sell sound radicly better when using amps. When they are all set flat, the pioneer DEHP-770MP and alpine CDA-9853 both sound better.

Good advice right there. I haven't had a chance to head to head with clarion in awhile. Pio and Eclipse I know definately seriously outclass the other crap I sell (kenwood/sony/blau) Even sometimes certain models of hu's will just sound better for some reason. I do think that having lower actual pre-out voltage due to shoving somuch other stuff into there might have something to do with it.

Yea why are more and more touch screens coming out. I perfer good old knobs.

My requirement for any head unit I buy is that it must have a volume knob on the left-hand side. It's basic user interface design. I don't care how flashy you want to make a head unit...it still has to be functional on the road.
