This is a good point that I forgot to mention. It is more of an issue with a loaded up CX-5. When I'm driving the CX-5, I usually have my family with me. When I'm driving the CX-5 alone which is rare, with sport mode on, sometimes this isn't an issue. Which makes me think, the CX-5 just needs a tad more power. If they can get it to 200 hp that would be good enough I think.

Yep yep, they could get the current set up to 215hp with nearly a flip of the button. I think that number is perfect for the car as well.
 
I could be wrong, but it seems like the gen 1 CX5 owners don't like the 17's because in their mind its the "same car". It might share a similar (it's not identical) chassis and motor, but it's certainly not the same car. This car is not a mid-life refresh, Mazda sees it as a brand new car the same way they see the CX-9, which is why they look so much alike inside and out. Like it or not it's a new car, and most of us like it. The old CX5 was nice to look at but it certainly didn't feel like it was as nice as as an A4, ATS, TLX, or Q50 whereas the new CX5 does. Sure it's not as fast as them, and it doesn't use premium fuel, but the '17 CX5 is a little luxury CUV.
 
This morning I stomped on mine to pass a work pickup behind a gravel truck - when I stepped on it it took off like a spotted-ass ape and nearly came out from under me. And this was going maybe 20 mph to start? I got past both vehicles (on a two-way feeder, no less) quite quickly and entered the freeway a few hundreds yards further up going close to 90.

I am damn sure not complaining about the power, but oh holy crap those front wheels got jiggity for a second or two! Anyone else have that happen? And I didn't even touch sport mode - it was there on it's own.

Wrong in my book, but no biggie. I would LOVE to have most of the new features of the 17, but everything they did to the looks they can keep...I don't even think I could convince myself to buy a 17 if they would've shown up with the 2.5T, and I'm one of the ones that would love a turbo option (non-diesel).

Welcome to the world of FWD and wheel hop. It sucks. Glad to hear this little thing will do it at a 20mph roll, though. Lol

Yeah, my F250 will run just as fast if not faster (Ford's awesome 6.7 turbo diesel), but I've never felt the front end of it come up! SO, that's a thing?

It's definitely a thing. There's way to kill it, lowering, motor mounts, bushings, etc. like I've had to do in my fwd play toys of the past.

Haha, we're in the same boat. You wouldn't even believe the problems with mine. Even the VW reps said they'd never seen something quite like it and couldn't figure it out. Couple that with things breaking in pairs (the stories are good) within hours of each other, and they'd have a hard time giving me one.

Now an old air cooled VW and I might have a little fun with it...
 
8.5 inch ground clearance on FWD models is a weird decision - maybe to save cost or something. AWD seems better at highway speeds - in terms of power and also fuel efficiency but the FWD 16 - is tall and just has no power above 75-80 when loaded with 2+ adults.
I just run 37 psi which is 3 more than recommended- guess the truthiness of the throttle response under 60mph is just not available at 80. Embarrassed when on highway had my foot all the way down - the speedo moved from 80-85 in like 15 seconds. The ES300H behind me overtook me from right lane. - This was in a car with wife and kid and no significant luggage < 25 lbs.

I can understand what finch is saying - but 17 will resolve this issue to an extent. 16 FWD should have been 8" ground clearance max. CX-5 gets murdered on Texas highways - I took a highlander towards NM on I-20 and it just rode 85 mph all the way - Dont think CX-5 can do that - Touring is an odd trim name since Touring itself means vehicle built for looong distances. CX-5 trims should be called City / City + / City ++

This is what I'm talking about folks. Obviously "not enough power" is not an issue for the majority of owners, but it can be an issue for some of us.
