Those Dark Red/Maroon type seats

Have you guys seen those dark red/maroon colored leather seats on like the maeserati's and some older model BMW's? Well iw as just wondering if I could just take some high quality leather, and cut and format it so it'll just cover my seats on my ES. It would just be the normal cloth seats with the dark red/maroon colored leather covering them. Would this be a stupid idea b/c it's faulty in some way? I dont' want to made fun of, but maybe i've already made a fool of myself...

re apolstering the seats is far from uncommon.. i say go for it.. do what you think will look good its ur car and for ur comfort and likes.. personally im going sparco torino racing seats in my car..
