Those CX-5 Side Trim pieces

I thought someone else posted about this recently, can't find it. No idea how this happened. I would assume no one is dumb enough to think you could break in this way?
Dealer wants $229 to replace just that black piece. Anyone know how to replace it?

Does the $229 include part & installation or just the part?

Same part for 2016-2017. $40 online. If you can't figure out how to change it out, take it to a trusted body shop. They'll probably charge you half an hour's labor.

Never underestimate the level of stupidity out there lol.

I wonder if, rather than trying to break into your car, someone needed that trim piece and thought they could just pop it off in a parking lot or something?

Wonder if you could heat the piece and work it back to it's original shape?
Maybe use a hair dryer while slowly applying pressure.

I like that idea. What have you got to loose if your planning at this point with replacement part. Pull it off, heat it up. Put a stack of books on it maybe.
