thnking about switching to royal purple.....

i use a fram oil filter it seems to be pretty good

i will try something different then

I run Q Horsepower in mine with a FramTough Gaurd Filter. Runs fine to me with no problems.

mobil 1 10/30 full syn and fram tough gaurd filter no problems yet. any one no of anything that works better in the msp let me know.

Changing it often is more important then the brand. Valvoline full synth here, change it every 3000 because I don't like my car blowing up. Those who try and stretch it 5-10k you're retarded. Why chance it? It's cheap insurance.

If you want a wicked case of rod knock, do it. Use Royal purple....

I know a guy that used royal purple in his msp and he developed rod knock with that oil. In less than a 3,000 mile interval.....

Also Royal purple is under investigation by the government due to their oil not meeting US standards. AKA they have been been giving false information about the performance of their oil....

Royal purple = death of motor....

where did you get this information from??? pmed you and OP.. a good thread.

honda motors aren't mazdas.

These threads are pointless. Everyone has an opinion, and they're all different. You'll get all sorts of viscosity ranges and brand opinions.. so you'll get absolutely no help in the end. Just stick to whatever has worked well for you so far, why change the oil if you're not experiencing any problems with what you've been using so far?

Haven't had any problems with changing my oil every 8-10,000 miles other than a blown motor, but it wasn't due to oil...

royal purple 5w20 and K&N oil filter every 2k-4k miles depending on my driving over the course of that interval

Wow - that's definitely overkill. Extend that to at least 5k miles like the owners manual says, and save yourself a hundred bucks each year, why don't ya :)

You guys running the K&N oil filters are getting ripped big time. The absolute best bet is a mazda factory filter....however if your dead set on aftermarket pick up the mobil 1 filter...exactly the same as the k&n just cheaper

+1. I use the Mazda filter - costs me $6 every 5,000 miles, and I know I'm getting quality.

Oil change made your idle smoother??? Your oil must have been ******.... LOL, so thick its bogging the motor down??? (rlaugh)

He also switched to a K&N air filter - don't think he was talking about the oil smoothing his idle (screwy)

Total and 100% bulls**t. Let's see some sources to back this up.

No...he was...

there have been occasions when the condition of my oil allowed me to extend my interval but between commuting usually loaded with my tools and school/work supplies on top of lunch runs everyday where i wasnt exactly gentle on the car and just short hard drives around town and nights out

but i have always checked my oil level and condition frequently and did my oil changes as i saw they were needed, not necessarily to a specific date or milage

That's perfectly understandable, but I would be willing to bet you that sight alone is not the best indicator for changing your oil - from what I've heard from various sources, oil discolors a lot sooner than it loses its efficiency. I still think you'd be fine with 5k mile intervals.

your right, sight alone is not but alont with smell and feel you can get a little better of an idea. now that i live back at home and im comuting less and my miles are easier im sure i can enjoy the benefits of longer change intervals
