Third gear blown?

You may be able to get away with just cleaning the area off really well and putting some silicone over the seam. There isn't really any pressure up there. You didn't overfill it did you?

Yeah you should be ok if you can just do that... otherwise you are more or less screwed... trying caulking it shut with RTV or the like as best as you can and hope for the best!

Later,

Steve

I think I got the same s*** going on. I thought it was some fluid I spilled or something, but it looks like it's coming out. There's no OEM gasket we can use instead of RTV is there?

the key is to be very very patient and make sure you never break the bead. I also then loop around ever screw hole... Take your time and you won't leak, but yeah, it sucks... oh.. and if you ever contact the rtv while putting it together and then take the halves apart again before screwing it down... guess what... run a new bead.

That's exactly what i just did.

I don't THINK I overfilled it, but I can't guarantee it.

Also, I noticed that there is a metal cap covering some kind of vent from inside the tranny...it's possible for fluid to get out of that hole, but I don't see any wet spots on that part.

Yep, that's the over pressure vent.. for when you REALLY overfill that thing...

Just put 3 quarts in and no more... as long as you do that you'll have no issue on the fill... 3 quarts is actually like .16 too much.. but oh well ;).

you guys are discouraging the s*** out of me.my car will be back together soon, and I will be tuning it to be around 15psi daily,I don't want to spend an outragious amout for a strong tranny, but I don't want to have to find a new tranny everytime I really use the car either.
something needs to be done!

We are working on it... I'm picking up my spare transmission next week.. and then I'm going to do the conversions to it and also test out a "low cost" solution on my current tranny.. I'll beat my current tranny silly with the low cost solution to see if I can pop it or not... then whenever it pops.. I'll put in the new transmission that will have the conversion done to it... sooo... long story short by mid to late August I'd expect to have a full set of marketable solutions availble to you guys that will not in any case exceed 600 bucks. Soo... hope that is of some consolation.

What set holds 450whp? The gears out of the 323GTX?

Also, my bad luck continues...I somehow got a pinhole leak in my lower radiator hose last night on the way to a viewing. I saw white smoke coming out of my hood to find my hose pissing on my BOV. :( I let it cool, chewed some gum, slapped it on, and drove home. It actually worked.

However, the bead of RTV I put on the trans seam seems to be doing ok.

hehe, when something fails, other things will come after you and fail.
In the past 2 weeks alone...

-I scuffed up my side skirt (my fault...forgot that I parked next to a concrete island in a parking lot...scraped it up as I pulled out...right into it)

-Ran out of gas TWICE (NEVER did this in this car EVER, then it happens to me twice in a week's time. Luckily they were both close to the gas station)

-Ate 3rd gear

-Replaced the trans, which leaked the next day

-Mysteriously developed a leak in the lower radiator hose

And keep in mind that in the past 2 weeks, my car has only been functional for maybe 7 days.

thats not bad,I have been waiting months to drive my car.
now I am just waiting for my block, mpi, injectors, and new intake manifold to show up,..........then I get to break my tranny(dunno)

I realize this discussion is mainly about puttin the msp lsd in a 5 tranny but what about putting a whole msp tranny in a non-abs platform? That would require both the pink gear AND the white gear to be installed in the msp tranny correct? How would I go about putting in the white gear? thanks, Rory
