Thinking of turbocharging your P5? Here's a guide for getting started...

alright thanks man, i think i'll probably just use it to trade in for an 02 or or 03 turbo impreza or something along the lines of that, the economy's to bad to justify putting but soooooo much money into ur car

ok thats bulls***, but u get the point

Understandable which is why I did not turbo mine in the beginning. I kept saying I was going to sell my car and get something that wouldn't break, but for some reason when I made a list of mods I wanted to do for the next car a rebuilt engine w/ forged internals was on the list. So I figured I'd stop wasting my time thinking about other cars and just see what I could do with this car. I plan on running 5-6 psi that way I do not harm my engines. Make sure you keep up on maintenance and do a few compression checks just to see if your car can handle a turbo anyways.

If you only plan on doing your basic essentials with a F/I car: intake, header, exhaust, maybe front mount intercooler kit and that's it then I understand if you plan on moving on to another car.

with forged internals you can do a lot more that 6 psi...i've been running 6 psi on stock internals for about 55K miles...turn it up!! :)

I know. haha. I meant I'll be running 6 psi with my turbo setup (Basically MSP with fmic, injen cai, 2.5 exhaust.) If I had forged internals I'd be bumping it up more than 6! ha.

I'll do a dyno when I do go turbo so I can get a good tune in with my afc.

how much hp are you running on 6 psi?
not sure...160ish maybe...i'm hoping to dyno it, finally, next month

(2thumbs)

I'm going to try and install everything and may be get a group together and find a dyno local by the end of summer.

you could get away with a custom kit but I really don't recommend it...it's turbo, don't cheap out on it...there's plenty of used premade fmic or smic kits out there that you would be much happier with and that will give you much less headaches...trust me, I've ran at least seven or eight different fmic kits (custom, not custom, etc...) and I always had problems with the custom kits...intercooler pipes popping off, couplers all over the place, etc...etc...

the oil feed line stock is a -4AN line...the return line stock is a silicone hose not a braided line...I think that's what you were asking...the drain line is a 5/8ths I believe, let me double check that for you in a second

no problem
you'll need to relocate your maf sensor past the bov though if you are going to VTA, else you will stall when you come out of gear

ok, I'd pick up a tranny cooler if I were you too...the more cooling you have to it the better, since you are running a lot through it

depending on your setup you may start to notice that it feels like it's got a 'slipping clutch' (if you've ever experienced that)....my buddy notices that in his turbo p5 too...start looking at upgrading the valve bodies and the torque converter and it should assist with that

Way ahead of you buddy, but certainly agree with your advice.
I drive it in manual mode almost all day. 67K miles and no slippage.
I havent even flushed the trans fluid yet.

I have my tranny cooler kit picked out, Derale 13950 ($180). Should be ordering it in a couple weeks or so. This will accompany the CS AL radiator that is waiting.
also,
I DO have a Lentech Street Terminator waiting to be needed...I plan on tackling the trans after the turbo is going. I'll get it rebuilt, do valve bodies, put in TC and maybe an LSD /dreaming
