1/2 A quart of oil every other fill up is the pain. But other than that should be a good car.

liar, i only need to top 1/4 of a quart every 1000 miles, far from 1/2 qt every other fillup :p

the main things you should consider are:

- gas mileage (if you're coming from a 25mpg Protege/3, be ready for a sticker shock in fuel cost, not only because of the mileage, but also because the 8 requires premium gasoline to run at its best performance)

- winter driving (if you plan to drive in ANY kind of wintry weather, you MUST get winter tires, the stock summer tires are completely useless in wintry conditions)

as the oil use thing, I'm so used to checking the oil level every 1000 miles that it's a nonissue to me, it takes like 2 minute to check oil, i don't know why people make such a big deal out of it :D

so go test drive one!! you'll love it :D

I love my 8. Sure i add between 1/4 and 1/2 qt every 1000 miles (depends on how its driven) and it gets horrible gas mileage, but it is one of the most fun to drive cars i have ever been in. Im 6'6" and have the sunroof, its a bit tight, but i have to have my sunroof.

sunroof seriously cuts in on the headroom, so if you're a big 'n tall person, probably best to skip on the sunroof (rockon)

not only that, it degrades structural integrity of the car and we already have no pillar in the midle as well as ads useless weight and drag when open.

I didnt even get leather in my 8 since I have it in the Mazda 6 and well, conditioning leather once every few weeks, few months is not my favorite thing to do.

yeah, the gas mileage is terrible, but it is sooooo fun to drive. they have a problem with flooding. if you fail to let the engine reach normal operating temperature and turn it off, you run the risk of flooding. i am a member of www.rx8club.com where a lot of the members have "flooders", mine never has though (crosses fingers). i recommend the first mod that anyone do is lower it. i lowered mine with h&r springs and DRAMATICALLY improved the handling. the sound of the engine is wonderful and is very unique. great car.

i didnt realize the sunroof thing... i live in FL and wouldn't have it any other way than to have a sunroof. Since I'm a fairly short female I never have headroom problems except for the sun visor always getting me if I lean forward.

If you are still debating on getting one then I highly suggest you get one.... I have had mine since Sept 2003 and I love it.... I have 36K miles on it and drive it everyday..... Its fun to drive, not hard to take care of if you don't mind checking the oil regularly (which if you are to lazy to check the oil then you shouldn't be driving a sports car anyways) and has a very comfortable ride. I haven't had any major problems out of my car, except for the recalls, and I wouldn't trade it in for anything else out there right now (well thats in my price range anyways) :)

ok, ok, so maybe the Elise or the RX-7 TT..... but nothing else.... :) besides you are buying me the Elise remember.....

the flooding issue should have been resolved with the latest ECU reflashes, fyi

Mine never had a flooding issue till they did some ECU reprograms. Then they fixed it with a really fast kicking new starter. (thumb)

No one wants to hear my list of issues, not even the RX-8 club guys. (hah)

*Sigh* I still love her...
