Thinking about getting LASIK done

For those of you who have had it done, do you have any advice? Any places to look online?

I have done some research and found out that I think I want to get LASIK with Intralase (bladeless) done, using the Allegretto excimer laser with wavefront technology.

Any ideas or suggestions?

How much did you pay for yours? Woudl you have done it again?

I had it done in January. LASIK MD in Ottawa. Went real good, nothing hurts. For the first day that its done you have to wear prescribed sunglasses inside and out. For the first week you have to use eye drops and sleep with a plastic cover over your eyes, and then for the following month you have to continue to wear the sunglasses outside to protect from sand, harsh wind, sun etc...Your eyes will prolly become more dryer than usual, but that will go away with time. There are also some other restrictions, as in no contact sports for awhile, no water skiing etc. But these all decrease as time goes by. You also wont be able to scratch your eye, or rub it really hard. Overall its one of the best things ive done. I used to wear contacts everyday, and now im better than 20/20. Go and get a free consiltation and see what you think.

~5k is standard for the US I'm afraid. I paid $4600 in Garden City, NY.

I had it done last November. Experienced it just as quagmire did. After the surgery I was asked to keep my eyes closed for a day and put in two types of drops every few hours. Sleep with protective covers so you don't rub your eyes, DO NOT RUB YOUR EYES
I don't remember just how long I had to put in drops. Two weeks? One week? Something like that. I have 20/15 on both eyes and it's really fantastic.

The only drawback is a halo around lights, which will bother you at first when driving at night if you get it. Not everyone has it, and for those who do, apparently it sometimes disappears (6 weeks to a year, I guess depending on the eyes). I think I still have it to an extent, but it's to the point that I don't remember how I used to see, so it doesn't bother me.

my uncle last year got the treatment done in NYC. From being around him the recovery process wasnt all that bad, he hit rough spots but thats a given w/ any surgery. I myself never really put too much thought beind it b/c im a panzy and pass out near needles.....What i do know is he def did NOT pay $1500, he easily pushed close to $5,000.....Also check w/ your insurnace program b/c more & more companies are just starting to cover it....If bad eye sight bothers you that much, then go for it!!!

Getting it done in 2 weeks. Average for a good procedure is 4K in the southeast.

TLC has been around for a while and that is who I am using. They have offices all around the country and the post care is guaranteed for life including any enhancements that are developed down the road.

there are two proceedures currently that I know of.

One is the typical one size fits all adjustment and for 200 more an eye (included in the 4K) they will do a custom adjustment for your eye to even out the peaks and valleys of your cornea. This helps eliminate any night sparks or halos.

I stumbled across this post while searching for something else. I know it's late to reply, but in case anyone else ever finds this thread, I thought I should. DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST before getting LASIK. There are so many side effects and complications. I got hte surgery done last year and I'm still suffering from dry eye, which apparently happens to 1 in 5 cases. There are lots of resources out there on this matter...try LASIK Problems as a good starting point.

Yep, same thing with me. I had LASIK done in 2004. Was a life changing experience for me, literally. As soon as you wake up the next morning, you have to take a moment to let things really sink it. I couldn't believe how different everything looked, pun intended! It cost me around 2k, but it was worth every single cent. I would highly advise you to first do some research on which doctor is best for you, and what types of procedures they use. You can always make an appointment for a consultation with the surgeon. For me, it has been incredible
