thinking about getting a speed6

Hey everyone. I currently own a 93 mazda miata with about 210,000 miles on it. Im getting to the point where im doing $100 fixes on it every week or so.

So im looking at getting into another vehicle. I found a 2006 speed6 GT with about 61,000 for $14,000. How has these cars held up with more miles on them? Im kinda pressed for time cuz my miata is about to take a crap anyday now.
So think i should jump on this? I cant really spend any more then that on a car right now though or i would get something with a little less miles on it.

So what do you all think?

And do you think getting a extended warranty is worth it?

good question...

Welcome,

If you find and get a speed 6, you and I will be in a similar boat as I recently just acquired a speed 6 to replace my previous daily driver, an 03 WRX.

I can't help you on the long term reliability of the car as I've only driven it 190 miles so far. I still need to take it in to the dealer and have the oil/filter changed along with a check to see if it's had the recalls done.

I'd also like to hear from people about if an extended warranty is worth it from Mazda on the speed 6. Mine has 21k miles but the warranty expires on 5/24/09
so I will need to decide in the near future about the need for an extended warranty myself.

What I'd like to find is a mod friendly Mazda dealer in my area...

Matt

The vehicle is not at a mazda dealer, Its at a private used car dealer. Thay are offering a warranty on the vehicle but i dont know how much or what it covers. Questions im going to ask them today when i got test drive the vehicle.

Do you think mazda would offer a extended warranty even though im not getting the vehicle from a dealer?

Im a porsche technician so im very familiar under the hood of a vehicle. I just dont have a few thousand dollars to throw at the vehicle in case it throws a rod or needs a turbo. So im still debateing on if a extended warranty would be worth it.

Thanks for all help!

No I dont think mazda will offer you a decent warranty for a car with 60K on it. Try and find one with less miles. There are a bunch around for great prices. Im sure you can find one for around 15K with half those miles.

The speeds 3 / 6's are relatively new cars so not many people have TOO many miles on them. For the most part they are decent in reliability.

Mine is about to hit 40k miles and I bought it used with 18K miles and those 18K were put on in 10 months by the previous owner. Since then I've only had a flash done to the powertrain and zero problems. Although, the dash is starting to creak and rattle with the cold weather...that's my only complaint so far...

thanks for all your responses. I am actually looking at anouther ms6. Its about 200 miles away from me but i think it might be a better deal then the first one i was looking at. 06 22k on it for $18,000.

Just a quick question it doesn't state if it has navigation or not but i've seen pictures where the navigation would be is either smooth or has a button. If its smooth does that mean it has navigation?

thanks

Good luck with your search kwright997.

For reference I have owned my '07 since new and it now has 21,000 miles on it. The only thing that has gone wrong is a rear wheel bearing. The mechanic at my local dealer said that the bearing was installed incorrectly from the factory and that's why it failed prematurely. If a bearing is bad, you'll know because there will be a very loud howling coming from the bearing that is failing. It is very audible inside the car. Other than that, it's just been oil changes and great to drive.

Does it have leather seats? If it has leather seats it's a GT, if cloth, it's a sport. GTs had the option of navigation, but it wasn't standard, if I recall correctly. Sports didn't have navigation as an option. A sport has a storage compartment there instead. Also, look in the pictures to see if there is a remote sitting on the left side of the shifter. No remote = no navigation.

Just got back from test driving the first one i found. Im actually very impressed with the car. Drives really nice, has decent power, very comfertable. I think im deffently sold on getting a ms6. Now I just need to figure out which one....

Lower price with higher milage

Or

4k more but with one third of the milage but is a 4 hr drive away.

Im probley going to end up going with the more expensive car.

Thanks for all your help.

woah Woah Woah! Pump the breaks! I made the mistake of buying one from a NJ A**hole yellow teeth having mofo! i thought i was getting a good deal at the time I ended up returning it shortly after i bought it. (5hrs of my life ill never get back and a bunch of CEL's.) It took me 3mo to find my ride. I got (what I consider) a great deal. Mine was 19k with 16k mi. Had the Hks Bov installed aready and the benefit of a 5yr 60,000mi warranty. You'll find the right deal. i knew what i wanted, and i just waited it out. you should do the same. for reals!

P.s i bought mine privatly

The GPS sucks Anyway!

just to give you a heads up, there's a ms6 in alabama on autotrader for 14.9 with 30k miles. I thought about picking it up, but im going to collect some money for a couple of months, but you can find one under 20k miles for around $16k to $18k easily. i hope that helps, and I think im finally set on the 6 and not 3.

Further proof that more are coming into the market is that the black ms6 I was on my way to look at when I stumbled across vrm just went to auction for 12,000 and only had 26k on it. A little extra patience will net you the exact car you want at a good deal. IMHO I would pass on the high millage car and start trying to negotiate a good deal with the internet sales guy at the dealer where the other one is located (he may be hungry and looking to deal).

I talked to the guy online about the car that is in ny and he said that hes very flexable on the price and was really trying to get me up there to take a look at it.

Alabama is a little bit out of my reach right now. I like to look and drive the car before i would purchase and thats a little bit to far for me.

I wish i could stay and wait for that perfect car. But my car (93 miata 210k on the clock) Is going to take a s*** anyday now and im not throwing anymore money into that car. So im kinda stuck on getting something thats out there now.

Im going to drive up there tomorrow to take a look at it and i think if i can talk the ny guy down a grand or so. Or get him to throw in a extended warranty i think ill jump on it.

So if all goes well ill have my ms6 in a week or so(headbang). Im excited like a fat kid in a candy store.

Why did you end up returning yours?

Return

I Started getting CEL's like 2days after I bought It. I brought it to the dealership in Stamford, and they voided the warranty. whoever had it before me Upgraded the turbo and took both the cat's out. It's illegal to sell a car with no Cat's and I called the dealer and Blasted him!!!! He sent two guys up from Jersey 2days later to pick it up and refunded all my money. I know your all thinking "upgraded turbo?" "I would have kept it" right? wrong. I did'nt know who did the work nor was it tuned correctly or it wouldent have throw a CEL, plus my warranty was now gone. (There is nothing like a factory warranty) The one I returned was a red Gt with Nav that I picked up in Jersey it had that stupid chrome gas tank and a boost gage installed in the driver side air vent. If this is the car your going to see in NY DON'T BUY IT!! and never, never, buy a used car in Jersey!!

Wow that sucks dude. The car im looking at is in new york. And its black. But ill defently look out for aftermarket stuff on the car.

The exteded warrenty was defiantly worth it for me. I just had my power steering pump go out and they replaced it fo free =] that thing aint cheap.

And hey the drivers side vent boost gauge install is hot =].
