I also like the new Audi A3 alot too, maybe a little better than the beemer

That's hot. I'd much rather have a BMW over an Audi too.

And for the love of god, don't give your 16 year old a turbo MP5. No matter how restrained he may seem, it will end bad. Get him a POS until he graduates high school :D

Giving your 16 year old son a turbo car of any kind can only end badly. I thank my parents all the time for giving me a POS neon as my first car. I learned lesson in that car that would have cost many thousands in a nicer car. I have no respect for people who give their kids nice cars, it's just not smart. Get him a cheap beater for a few years at least.

i thought the p5 was a cheap car. as long as the kid is responsible, who cares. my friend got into more trouble (accidents, all olf which were his fault) in his pos minivan that i ever had in any of my cars (rx-7, mustang, volvo 760 turbo).

back to the topic, yes, the 1 series looks great. i haven't kept up with the news, is it coming here?

I got a POS for my first car ('92 maxima) and I think it was in some ways a good thing.

I think there is probably an 80% chance a new driver will wreck or otherwise damage a a car before he/she turns 20.

lol, I had a Neon too. It wasn't a P.O.S. though. I wrecked it though :(

i had a Ford Escort......Lets hope they bring the 1series to the states cause im looking to get one too.

16 year old, car with turbo. First speeding ticket in 1 month, tops. I would get him a regular protege to start off with, personally. Lots of power+ invincible teenager resulted in 2 guys in my high school wrecking their cars, and ending their lives.

But you can do what you want. As far as a BMW, get the extended warranty. They are not known as Bust My Wallet for nothing.

I test drove the AUDI A3 sport model with the SMG transmission. Overall it would be a perfect replacement for the P5.

The wife wants the turbo taken out for a while when he gets it, which i probably will do. One good thing about him is though, he's super responsible, been riding motorcycles and driving karts for years. And i though the MP5 was a cheap car too. Compared to the cars that i drive on a regular basis (BMW 5, a 300C, and just recently sold my 4Runner) the protege was bought totaled for $3g and I only have about $9g in her now, turbo stereo everything included.

My first car was a 91 BMW 3 (1 yr old) and i had her all through high school, never a scratch on it. My son is like me and a total car freak. I know he will totally respect it or any car he gets.

My original plan was to get the P5 and turn it for a profit. It was a fun little car and got good gas mileage ( I drive 50 miles a day to/from work) Plus it ended up having a salvage title. So I kept it. I had still planned on getting a new Audi S4 then said whats the point. The mazda gets me to and from work and the others are for all other driving. So it was going to be a new RS4 then i saw the A3. I liked it a lot, thought that would be a good replacement for the MP5. Then i see the 1 series. Tough decisions.

That's cool. I work with a guy who has an 02 A4. It has major electrical issues. onye brake light will not work. They want to replace the harness for the entire car, now out of warranty, evne though it has been at the dealer 20+ times for random problems. Be sure to check reviews before you buy, could be more headache than you want.
