the wierdest thing?!

I was driving in a highway.. going about 65-70 at around 3000-3500 rpms.. after driving like this for about 5 minutes, the car started to shake crazily.. it was kinda wierd and freaky so i let off the gas and it stopped.. whenever i gave it any gas or tried to pass 3k - 3.5k rpms, the insane shaking would start up again..(notcool) after about 5-10 minutes it stopped.. i thought at the time that this was the infamous hesitation, because, it seems like the car is literally hesitating 9275983 times in a matter of like seconds.. with the shaking and not going any faster.. but i asked some people and they said the shaking is not normal and that it wasnt hesitation.. somebody told me that it might be my spark plugs.. i have no clue as to what this could be.. hrm.. now that i think about it.. the shaking was almost similar to the shaking that happens when you get wheel hop.. just not as intense but it was quite insane.. anybody have any ideas? thanks..

right, thats not the hesitation.
does it feel kinda like your low in 1st/gonna stall? sounds like an ignition/fuel problem. same problem in lower gear at same rpms? or only on the highway? maybe ignition coil. could, in some wierd way be a plug, but you dont have that many miles? if it was a spark plug, i would look for an underlaying issue (if you have <<30K on your car) as in, what caused a plug to go so bad so early.
it doesnt feel like the 1st gear stall thing.. but actually sometimes when my car is idle, it does idle low at certain times and does go to like .2 - .3 idle.. but this was more "violent" of a shake.. like i said.. it was like wheel hopping kinda shake but.. not as magnified.. it was pretty bad though.. and i have around 15.5 k on the car

mine was doing a similar thing when my mas sensor was bad..also could be a intake track leak..
whats a intake track leak? hrm.. is mas and mafs same thing? -.-;; i dont know these things.. but anyways.. i guess i have to go to the dealer.. actually it happened a couple of months back so i took it to them and explained the situation and they gave my car back w/ no response..

Quote from dealer- "could not duplicate customers concern, no repairs attempted at this time." lol

I would lean more towards something rotational knocked out of balence or broken since it only happens at certain speeds or rpms. To me it doesn't sound like an engine problem. Also if it was a fuel or ignition problem causing misfiring it would throw the mil on.

Were you lifting off of the throttle when the shaking happened?

Good question!

if it doesnt shake while your foot is off, it is a fuel problem.

well i dont think its a broken belt because it happened last week and only once before that like a month before.. and i guess its a fuel problem because it only happens while im hitting the throttle.. when i let off it stops.. but then again.. when the rpms are under 3 - 3.5 k it seems to be ok even if throttle is open but once it hits that area it starts to shake again.. so is it a fuel problem?

When you say "it happens at a certain rpm" you're probably reffering to a certain speed because I'm assuming you're in 5th gear on the highway...unless that happens in every gear at those rpm. It could be the LSD since the car starts shakng when you give it gas and stops when you let off. Let us know.

Mine does the same thing, the techs don't know WTF is the problem. At first I thought it was because I ran a line for my boost gauge and it was leaking vacuum. Car was running super rich and the damn thing would jerk like a MOFO when it was cold outside, and the car hadnt warmed up. I'd give it just a TINY bit of gas and the damn thing wouldnt want to go anywhere, then ........ BAMM!! The thing just started moving along.

******* weird. The damn thing does it all the time, but nothing is damaged. Didnt pull any codes up on WDS.

Sometimes my car shudders for a second if I let off the throttle at a certain speed at a certain RPM...

I think it's a PCM programming issue...something with the fuel map

well it doesnt happen everyday.. or even every week for that matter.. ive had my car for over a year now.. slightly.. and its done it only 2 times.. one time last week and the first time around a month and half ago.. or so.. i still have no clue.. it may be a fuel problem since it happens when i press the gas.. not sure yet.. hopefully when i change my plugs it'll take care of that..

I had that happen to me... only happened once though, so I chalked it up as the car having a "bad hair day" or something.

No... hasn't happened yet. It was a warm day, and I was driving it pretty hard. Haven't really had the same situation yet, but I'm sure I will. ;)

Could heat soak cause this?

find someone with MSP who is willing to switch MAF's for a few minutes.
drive with their MAF and see if it happens again.
sounds like a bad MAF.........but then again.....

but this isnt like an everyday thing.. it happens randomly and has only happened two times so far.. and ive had my car for 1 year.. but it has happened both times within the past 2 months but still that gives me.. 2 months to drive around with somebody elses MAF? haha thats why i cant do that.. but.. both days were pretty warm days.. i was thinking the same thing d_stickney.. i was wondering whether the temp could be the cause? or at least influence it?
