The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

So Pablo and Phen say there is a great blues/rock band (probably the two worse genre's combined together and recommended by two guys with the worst taste in music) playing at the Beef House where Pablo works now this Friday. What say yee we get a couple Mazda peeps to go harass Pablo at the bar and throw our empty beer bottles at this bad band?

I'll be there.
bahaha I was like, where the hell is the Beef House?!

They play @ 8:30, you can come before. We have happy hour after 9 PM: $3 drafts and $5 pizzas.
Did you guys see that?!

I can make you a Shirley Temple ;)
Can you make me an amaretto sour that's like 98% amaretto and 2% sour? I've only found one guy who can make them how I like em...

Depending on what's going on with my bike I may be able to come (naughty)

I can try, I'll even make my own sour mix ;) - HOWEVER, I don't know if I'll be at the bar or serving (depends on what they need), but I might be able to make some drinks.

OH, and the pizzas are awesome. My favorite is the bavarian ham and cheese.

Found myself car shopping again. Thought I could live with 100 hp but it's just not cutting it with two adults in the car with the A/C on. To make matters worse there are larger cars with 50+ more hp that get better fuel economy. Would still love a Fiesta ST but for $25K I can get something bigger with better fuel economy and more features. The wife is pushing me toward a CUV since she's become infatuated with my parents new Rav4. My requirements are simple: manual transmission, 25+/30+ city/highway mi/gal, 4/5 doors, ~$25K. Currently on my "watch" list:

Mazda3 i GT
Mazda6 Touring
Subaru Forrester Premium

Anything else I should be looking at?

Also looking to sell my Eastwood 115V MIG. Anyone interested?

more info on the MIG? you can pm it if you wish

It's funny you mention the 5 because my wife thinks it's about the ugliest vehicle on the road (I disagree - see Nissan Juke). It's capacity is good but unfortunately, the 5 is just outdated. Its 2.5L I4 is underpowered and inefficient versus the newer engines and combined with the weight of the car I feel like it's be just about as bad as my 2. It's lacking feature-wise as well.

It's my understanding that with the manual transmission it's not bad. My friend picked up a 14 a few months ago, and he has no complaints. Even did something like 15% over EPA listed mileage on the highway with the air on.

The manual Mazda 5's are so much better than the auto, for sure. Larry and Jenny just got a new CX-5 and they love it......I believe it is a manual

Sadly, I have not taught Jen how to drive a manual yet so we got a frickin awfulmatic. However we do love it. Roomy, decent power with the 2.5, and comfortable seating. Drive one and see what you think of it. Don't bother with the 2.0 engine it doesn't have enough power.

If I get to the test drive phase I may have to take one out if one's available. Probably wouldn't be able to convince the wife though.

Unfortunately you can only get the 6MT with the 2.0L. I've been putting together a spreadsheet with a bunch of specifications and one thing I'm looking at is the power-to-weight ratio. My 2 is currently around 0.042 hp/lb and the 2.0L CX-5 is around 0.048 hp/lb. I'm okay with the ratio of the 2 it's just annoying when the A/C kicks on - seems to suck the life out of the car. Maybe with the 2.0L in the CX-5 it isn't as bad?

I thought anytime you went WOT in newer cars, the AC compressor kicks off?

/problem solved
