Yay! bought a welder, sort of. Need to figure out when I can pick it up from Jon and give him the cash.
I'll throw my 2 cents in. I find that the 2.0L Skyactiv lacks punch and it has to be wrung out to get any power out of it. The 2.5L Skyactiv makes up for that pretty well. If you're unhappy with loss of power in your 2 during A/C use stick to the 2.5L. That limits your options for transmissions to auto in the CX5 and Mazda 3. That leaves the Mazda 6 Touring 2.5L with manual trans. I personally think the Mazda 6 is the best looking of the bunch as well. The Mazda 5 mentioned is a personal fave of mine but it does have the drawbacks you mentioned, average fuel economy, latest body style looks are love em or hate em but at the same time the practicality of the 5 added to the fact it handles pretty darn well without any mods is why I drive one. Mine is an auto but the manual shift mode is actually quite good and wakes the engine up. I swear the the people who programmed the trans strategy didn't talk to the engine guys about where the power and torque curves were. Its like the trans was purposefully programmed to stay out of the power band. The wife is pushing me toward a CUV since she's become infatuated with my parents new Rav4. My requirements are simple: manual transmission, 25+/30+ city/highway mi/gal, 4/5 doors, ~$25K. Currently on my "watch" list:
Mazda3 i GT
Mazda6 Touring
Subaru Forrester Premium
Practice, practice, practiceThat will definitely come in handy with the Camaro.
Now if only you could weld......

Amazon, especially when they have great deals!
Agreed, but now to figure out what I need/want!Amazon, especially when they have great deals!
Good point. We haven't done any serious car shopping since Ian's been around but when I was looking at Fiesta STs we did test fit his (then) rear-facing car seat. That's when I determined the Recaro seats weren't going to be an option. Whatever we end up looking at I'll be sure to bring along his current car seat and stroller, and his old rear-facing seat and stroller for a future #2.Jon, if you can only mate a manual to the 2.0 I personally wouldn't bother. I don't think the 2.0 has enough power for all of the weight of the CX5 but a manual could make up for that. Also, you should consider the truck opening on the 3/6. Yesterday we dropped of our CX5 at the dealer and they were going to give us a 2014 3 sedan for a loaner car but Andrew's stroller would not fit into the trunk. We ended up with a 2013 CX9 as our loaner so room is not an issue as it is cavernous. I figured we would get some p.o.s for a loaner, I am impressed.
That's kind of along my line of thinking but I'm having a hard time coming up with something I need/want! I'm trying to think of generic/universal parts I need for the RX7.I would love to get the Craftsman $200 (when on sale, typically is) mechanic's tool set. Get a nice set of organized tools would be so nice. I have a mismatched set that I buy as I need stuff and its really annoying.
