The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Atleast in the FC, pissed off or not, I get a constant milage, about 16, unless I can fly 85+ on the highway, then it sees 25

Why doesn't this forum have a "thanks" button?

I'm getting used to it on the ducati forums and it's fun... and then I come here and there isn't one. -_-

I'm surprised this place gets any maintenance, let alone new features. It's so old

wow when I get pissed in the ms3 and romp on it I get 4mpg

Yup. I got nearly 160 miles on a half tank cruising around for work today. Then I went WOT from 2nd through 4th gear merging onto 62 in alliance and saw the needle drop a bar just like that

Yay! bought a welder, sort of. Need to figure out when I can pick it up from Jon and give him the cash.

The wife is pushing me toward a CUV since she's become infatuated with my parents new Rav4. My requirements are simple: manual transmission, 25+/30+ city/highway mi/gal, 4/5 doors, ~$25K. Currently on my "watch" list:

Mazda3 i GT
Mazda6 Touring
Subaru Forrester Premium
I'll throw my 2 cents in. I find that the 2.0L Skyactiv lacks punch and it has to be wrung out to get any power out of it. The 2.5L Skyactiv makes up for that pretty well. If you're unhappy with loss of power in your 2 during A/C use stick to the 2.5L. That limits your options for transmissions to auto in the CX5 and Mazda 3. That leaves the Mazda 6 Touring 2.5L with manual trans. I personally think the Mazda 6 is the best looking of the bunch as well. The Mazda 5 mentioned is a personal fave of mine but it does have the drawbacks you mentioned, average fuel economy, latest body style looks are love em or hate em but at the same time the practicality of the 5 added to the fact it handles pretty darn well without any mods is why I drive one. Mine is an auto but the manual shift mode is actually quite good and wakes the engine up. I swear the the people who programmed the trans strategy didn't talk to the engine guys about where the power and torque curves were. Its like the trans was purposefully programmed to stay out of the power band.

That will definitely come in handy with the Camaro.

Now if only you could weld......
Practice, practice, practice

The only difference is my 2 has a 1.5L engine that makes 100 hp and 98 ft-lb. I was hoping the 2.0L SkyActiv with 155 hp would be more up to the task. I'll have to test drive them regardless. My wife is very against the 5 so unfortunately that's a losing battle. I do agree the 6 looks the best and is what I'm leaning toward despite the poorer fuel economy versus the 3. When priced out to my specs a 6 Touring 6MT is ~$200 more than a 3i GT 6MT sedan and is actually less than a 3i GT hatch.

Here's another discussion topic. I received $250 in gift cards as a reward from work. I can apply it to a number of places but I'm thinking Amazon or Sears is probably the best. Since I can't convert it to cash what should I put this toward?

Jon, if you can only mate a manual to the 2.0 I personally wouldn't bother. I don't think the 2.0 has enough power for all of the weight of the CX5 but a manual could make up for that. Also, you should consider the truck opening on the 3/6. Yesterday we dropped of our CX5 at the dealer and they were going to give us a 2014 3 sedan for a loaner car but Andrew's stroller would not fit into the trunk. We ended up with a 2013 CX9 as our loaner so room is not an issue as it is cavernous. I figured we would get some p.o.s for a loaner, I am impressed.

I would love to get the Craftsman $200 (when on sale, typically is) mechanic's tool set. Get a nice set of organized tools would be so nice. I have a mismatched set that I buy as I need stuff and its really annoying.

Motor is out of the miata!

Amazon, especially when they have great deals!
Agreed, but now to figure out what I need/want!

Good point. We haven't done any serious car shopping since Ian's been around but when I was looking at Fiesta STs we did test fit his (then) rear-facing car seat. That's when I determined the Recaro seats weren't going to be an option. Whatever we end up looking at I'll be sure to bring along his current car seat and stroller, and his old rear-facing seat and stroller for a future #2.

That's kind of along my line of thinking but I'm having a hard time coming up with something I need/want! I'm trying to think of generic/universal parts I need for the RX7.

I gotta learn on something.

Unless you need tools, I say gift cards for Amazon. So many more options.

Randomness: I have noticed 2nd gen Camaros popping up in giveaways recently. raybestos velocity & Sta-bil Still no love for the big bumpers though

Didn't happen on this forum....

Guy makes post to sell part for x amount + shipping, firm on the price

I've talked myself into the price, Send him a pm.

He sends back "$269 + $20(shipping) = $289.00usd + paypal fee; - use the gift tab, that way it gives you the option to pay the fee."

(squinty)

I realize were talking about $10 extra bucks but,

1. It's against that forums rules to charge/request paypal fees.
2. He wouldn't lower the price so it's not like we're doing each other a favor.
3. Doing it as a gift gives me less protection should he never ship it.

I think on principle I'm just going to say no. It's not anything I have to have.

I hate that when people think I'm going to send PayPal payments as gifts. Not a chance, buddy. I'd rather pay extra to the seller to cover his precious PayPal fee and have the insurance should he decide he doesn't want to ship the part.
