The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

so you're asking about 4 more besides the ones you listed?

I would prefer to have individual gauges with a good resolution, but if your main concern if staying within certain levels then most likely the 1 combined gauge will have warning settings, which would be more convenient. It would also be less distraction, I tended to look at all the gauges when I had them, at some point I was spending 1/3 of my time looking at all the gauges and values on the MS3 making sure everything was OK. Not the best idea.

might be a dumb question....For the voltmeter, is that something useful in the cabin? as in, while you are driving/racing something you will monitor?

The Monte Carlo had one stock but I never looked at it

I assume you're removing the stock gauge cluster?

The Race Pak Phen posted would be epic. But I bet they aren't cheap...

They're usually over $1k, and:

- don't think they include the sensors
- you need a standalone that can send data to it, usually includes datalogging features)

I am using an Autometer 4 or 5" tach with a shift light attached to the steering column, and the other gauges are attached to a bracket that is welded to the roll bar at the base of the windshield. I am using 2-1/8" autometer guages. I have oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, fuel pressure, voltage, and dual egt's on one gauge with a knob to flip between the sensors.

Well crap. My wife hit her head last Friday, and hasn't felt exactly well the past few two days. I took her to her mom's this morning so she could have help with our son. Apparently the doctor wouldn't call her back so they went to the ER. I wonder how that is going, nobody is returning a text.

Well, its all post concussion they determined. No CT, but they gave here muscle relaxers, pain meds and told her to stop thinking and she can't lift anything.

Man.... Anytime someone hits their head (usually after a fall and ESPECIALLY if they lost consciousness) they should go get checked out. A friend of the family fell on their front steps in the winter a few years back, went back inside and went to bed that night and never woke back up.

I don't mess around with head injuries, hope everything is ok.

Don't get me wrong, I woke her up every hour Friday night. Seemed fine for a few days till Tuesday, she started this not feeling well crap.

Unless this thing is big or close there is no way you can check things at a glance. Matter of fact any time I have been on track or at an autocross I couldn't tell you how fast I was going let alone what the water temp was. IMO you can have a gauge for everything imaginable and maybe, maybe check them once per lap, and never even give them a single glance during an autocross.

Larry, will take an occasional look at it when you are in a place where it is safe. This is mounted on the steering column where the driver does not have to take his eyes off the track. The next time you are at the track, we'll get you in a car so you can see for yourself.

I'm not saying it can't be done. I know there are 2 maybe 3 places to take a good look at gauges at Mid-Ohio. I might be talking out my ass too since I have done 1 hyperdrive at mid ohio and 2 autocrosses.

The big thing thats nice about it, other than its a single unit to replace your dash, the colored revs on top (corner of the eye looking) and flashing/beeping alerts for warning levels on the monitored gauges.

For autocross they're useful when you're in grid waiting, on course you should be concentration on the cones. As for the track, it took me 3 days to be able to see all the corner workers on track and acknowledge the flags so its a matter of practice. I paid attention to my gauges in a couple of spots by the end of the second day, good thing cuz the coolant and oil were getting pretty hot so I had to back down.
