The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Ok all you Speed3 owners what kind of fuel milage are you getting? My car is totally stock DD that was getting 27-25 mpg last year and this spring. for the past 3 months I've been getting 24-23 mpg. My drive to work hasn't changed, and I drive 95% highway milage, usually use cruise on the highway and set it 10 over the speed limit. The car has about 87,000 miles on it.

Ha, I asked him if that was a speed 3 today (grabbing a redbul at lunch because they are next door to my work) and he said yea. He said it's fast (duh) but it's not his. I was just wondering if we knew the guy who owned it. Gold painted calipers and ebay front mount.

Wait a minute. Are you talking about the gas station directly across the bridge after you turn right off the exit?? I used to work at Parker Hannifin off Greenwich, I was down there for something within the last month and stopped at that gas station and saw the same car you speak of lol.

Hello from Atlanta everyone! Using up some vacation time, so I am visiting some family. I had to leave my car at the airport which I'm not happy about. :(
could have left it with me :)

25mpg on summer gas and 23 on winter blend.

The winter blend seems to be all sorts of crappy this year too. My fuel trims were all sorts of whacky

the milage has been crappy for about 3 months or so, I wasn't driving it that much since I was driving the Miata. But I used to get 26-27 mpg pretty regularly.

The radio in Jen's 3 has taken a s***. Does anyone have their stock unit collecting dust? Her car is an 06 if it makes a difference, doubtfull.

Had the car less than 48 hours and I reached the break in mileage. New record? Lol. Went up to Detroit area for family stuff. Guess now the mods can begin. First stop, removing rear badge...tho I hear the 3 badge has pins and isn't just tape... Hope that's not true.

Are you going by hand calculations or by the car's mpg screen? How old is the fuel in it? Ever changed plugs? Ohio starts winter fuel in early October.

I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing the mpg drops. I went from 34-35 down to 32-33. darn winter gas...

anybody know if all mazda 3 frt strut braces are compatible? I see 04-13 on some and then 10-12 on others.

Pics?

Then how would we get to the airport?

I've been getting close to 28 with the new car. I guess it's loosening up a bit or switching to 93 has helped.

I would've dropped you off of course.

48 hours and you reached 1000 miles? I hope those weren't all highway miles. The constant RPM is bad for breaking in a new motor, or so I've read. I'm still at only 530 miles on my new motor...

That's what I was wondering. I've always read to stay off the highway and to vary rpms as much as possible

From the 2013 Mazda3 (included with the Mazdaspeed) owners manual:

No special break-in is necessary, but a few precautions in the first 1,000 km (600 miles) may add to the performance, economy, and life of your Mazda.
- Do not race the engine.
- Do not maintain one constant speed, either slow or fast, for a long period of time.
- Do not drive constantly at full-throttle or high engine rpm for extended period of time.
- Avoid unnecessary hard stops.
- Avoid full-throttle starts.

I know that I didn't wait until 600 miles before doing some of these points they make.

lol.... break in lasting 600 miles.... sure.

Most people think I'm crazy the way I break in engine but it works.

I didn't wait until 600 miles to go full throttle. More like 300 miles. I had it on Mid Ohio by 1,000 miles.

The way they word the precautions for the first 600 miles makes it sound unnecessary anyways.
