The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

It is what it is at this point. I just hope it lasts. I change the oil the last weekend of every month, compression is even across all cylinders and it doesn't consume any oil. Only thing that has gone wrong so far is bad purge solenoid valve, and replacing some suspension components.

You'll be fine. They're meant to be driven.

Exactly. The worst thing you can do is let a car sit. That's why I'm always thrilled to find what I need to fix each spring on the Miata and BMW.

Corey could always use one as a donor also to keep the other on the road, unless that is his intention and I missed it?

Basically what Nate said. I'm going to fix the motor on his car and use it as a DD and convert my MSP more toward Marlon's Spicey, but aimed more for autoX and hopefully have a SMF beast next year. She is now under 2,500lbs and I still have yet to take out the back seats and and play around with some other things. The goal is to get close to 2,400lbs if not lower. The lighter flywheel and under drive pulley being shaved will help me loose another 10lbs of rotational mass :) She was at 2,545lbs with my race setup and that was with 1/2 tank of gas and all my power steering crap on. Should be close to a dry weight of 2,475lbs as of now.

What's wrong with the motor on Nate's car?

As far as I know, what Larry said with the oil drain plug fell off somehow and the intake cam snapped near the timing belt. I'm going to attempt to cheaply fix it. I really have nothing to loose with having the extra parts. If all else fails the motor will come out and I'll rebuild her with the parts I have from my other motor :)

Good afternoon, I am looking for a drive side motor mount for a 2009 speed3. Do you know of anybody that might have one for sale?

I think the oil drain plug decided it wanted to join the circus and left. Then the engine wouldn't start. I think.

Both of these. When I checked to see if I went zoom-zoom-boom the drain plug was just gone. Threads on the pan still intact. Took off the valve cover and the intake cam gear was just kinda sitting there crooked. The bolt that holds the gear to the shaft sheared itself in half. Might be an easy fix, might need a new engine.

Not sure if this pic will show up but it's too funny not to share. My buddy on FB shared it.

I didn't have to do that, but the hockey puck tires I had this morning made for a fun commute.

And even better news. The lube tech that has done my oil changes and tire rotations is buying my old car. I'm happy for him because he's always said how much he's enjoyed it, but I was hoping they would sell it to someone else or simply wholesale it. Now I'll have to look at it everyday with a :(

I'm somewhat surprised that my super bad tires on the Miata aren't worse in the cold.

Can't wait for slush/snow though. If they are this bad in the rain I can only imagine...
