The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Just got an update from Montrose Mazda. They're seeing the misfire in cylinders 1 and 4. I drained my battery charging my phone while waiting for the AAA tow truck (didn't think it would take 1.5 hours) lol. I also knew my battery needed to be replaced since I had an issue where it died while I got gas coming back from Toledo last week. So they said it's a PITA because every time they shut the car off, they have to jump start it. So I gave them the OK to replace the battery. I think I got my money's worth out of the stock battery considering it has 109,000 miles on it LOL. Hopefully they can figure it out today because I can't borrow my dad's car to get to work tomorrow or Friday. I may have to look into paying for a loaner car or something. We'll see how it plays out.

My insurance covers a rental car check that first. Then use the discount code trt41 online to get a 51r battery. That code is good for $40 off anything over 100 at advanced auto parts. Way cheaper than an oem battery. That code got me a 51r battery for 93 after returning the old battery. Then you can get the small battery tray and a bigger intake once you get an ap ;)

Thanks, I'll check my insurance, but I don't think it covers a rental car. I've been planning on getting an AP since I have a lot of miles and need a better more accurate way to monitor. These expenses keep pushing that purchase back (along with moving).

Was bored last night and came across this: http://www.autotraderclassics.com/c...-Chevelle-1206078.xhtml?conversationId=224930

Smaller wheels, switch to black seats and minor tweaks here and there and you could have one awesome wagon

Depending on how the job search goes, we may be leaving Ohio. I know that we'll both hate leaving here, but the opportunities here are quite scarce in my area of expertise. I already have an interview with B of A for a Fraud Analyst II Position in Pasadena, California. On the other hand, I have to take an assessment for Progressive Insurance. I have applied for positions in other states as well, NC and GA. So, we'll see how it goes, moving forward.

Dude you should have let me know you were applying here! i could have put in a "referral" for you...but it has to be before you apply.

Good luck with the hunt.

Jon, may I get a discount on my Progressive insurance? Because we are friends and both have MS6's? Please? haha

I did list you as a reference on my applications, Jon Doll!

Thanks for the tire suggestions guys. The conti's were on my list. They aren't that expensive either. Now I have to see if I should buy now or wait since summer is almost over up here.

So Marlon, what do I have to do to get that conti discount?

Nope. not my department. besides, I don't even get a discount...i guess its illegal or something.

Well thats better than nothing. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

I will send you an invitation when I get home.

Montrose Mazda just called me back and my car is good to go!!!! They said they found water in the spark plug holes of cylinders 1 and 4 causing the misfires. They dried it all up and put about 10 miles on the car without experiencing any misfires or CEL's. I'm going to pick up the car later today after work. Also, I've been hearing a weird rattling issue and I've suspected some kind of issue with my timing chain/VVT. They confirmed that my timing chain is stretched so I'll need to replace the timing chain and VVT solenoid at some point. They quoted me at $1150 to replace both of those, but I'm going to hold off on that. I'm probably going to just do it myself if it's not too difficult. Has anyone else had experience replacing those before?

The worst part will be getting space to get the harmonic balancer off and pull the full timing cover with the motor in the engine bay.

Water in the cylinders screams bad gas, dry gas/treat that stuff immediately

Marlon, If you guys move you know you'll have to come back and visit Riley! haha

As far as the MOTM, we need to find an abandoned warehouse, construction site, parking garage or a park or somewhere with an interesting background to take some pictures at. We should do individual shots and include atleast one or two pictures with the rest of the group in the background of each entry.

I have no clue how water got in there. I did read that there's no drainage holes in the spark plug holes, so if some water gets past the rubber grommet of the coil pack tube thing, it's stuck in there. I don't have a TMIC so technically if it were raining (which is did drizzle a little bit on track), it could go through the top half of my grill (where the TMIC air ducts used to be). But then that doesn't make sense to me because I've been running my car like this for 3 months, 8k miles. I know for sure I've driven my car though some torrential down pours.

If it's a gas issue, Patrick should definitely check his car for water too because we both filled up with the gas at Mid-Ohio's pumps. He runs some kind of e85 mix so I don't know.

Yea I only got 9 gallons there. But I have ran that tank through and I'm half way through another tank now. I ran half that tank from mid ohio on the track. (averaged 7mpg lol) But I will check today when I get home and near some tools. Thanks for the heads up #2. Glad everything is ok. And I had a dream last night that my VVT/timing chain went bad. Maybe I should check everything lol

The polsky deck would be cool, but UA requires some sort of overnight/weekend permit now, so thats out.

#1 have you ever seen that feed place by Tess's house in Seville? I've driven back in there because they sell race fuel lol but That may work

There is also chippewa lake park. Its an abandonded amusment park with old roller coasters. A company was going to build hotels and stuff but ran out of money and just left after they put in dirt roads and stuff. So its a really good place to take pictures like by roller coasters and boat docks and stuff
