The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

The dealership that Jessie works at got a MS6 in on trade. It only has like 60-70k miles on it and she can buy it for around $11k. I'm not sure if I should recommend that car to her; there is also a MZ3 hatch there she likes which is a 2010 with a lot less miles that she might be able to get a good deal on as well. Well in any case, a new(er) Mazda may be in the cards for her.

Compression test, check for VVT noise on cold start...if all is well. Buy it.

Phen, Marlon, Lauri & Fez will remember these about racing

M3 with temp tags at nelson ledges, red ms6 at nelson ledges, black lambo at nelson ledges, stupercharged fukus zx3 that went off course at nelson ledges, race prepared civic at beave run & an audi on the on ramp to the turn pike from beave run. I'll dig up the pics later of some of them.
Damn it, i can't find the MS6 into the tire wall at ledges. Phen, Marlon, Mark?, Lauri, Fez? have pics? I need to laugh at that again.

She said the 11k was without any inspection/fix ups/warranty. I noticed it had a little rough idle on first start so unsure if it's spark plugs or dirty valves. I feel a simpler car would be better for her, less stuff to go wrong or have to fix.

Id be scared to drive at nelsons ledges. Too many bumps on the track

Pfft. I took the 90 miata out there slammed on stance coilovers. Can't get much more bumpy than that, and it did fine. :P

Edit: I know everyone will think I'm nuts but if all tracks were that bumpy I think they'd be more fun lol.

Shoot yea! I wasn't there for the Civic or the Audi, but the other ones are fresh in my brain.

Speaking of the red MS6, I was just thinking back to the first time I saw Terrance and Philip on South Park. "That's Scott... he's a dick!"

Lessons can be learned @ Nelsons. I have driven several it seven times without incident. My biggest issue is that they'll anyone choose their skill level and some of the novice asses think they're racing. NL, made me a better driver, going from bumpy to a smooth surface does wonders to the suspension.

It is a great place to learn, if you understand your limitations and try to find a good instruction to make it enjoyable.

IMO the lessons learned at Nelson's transfer to street driving. Err... I mean I guess that only applies to aggressive street driving. But nonetheless you'll know what will happen when you hit a bump mid-corner at a decent speed, which could be applicable if you ever get out of the city and into the country where speed limits are generally higher and roads are crappier, lol.

I agree, I definitely learned a lot the one track day I did at NL. However, it was too bumpy so I doubt I'll go there again. The worst bump was near the end of the back straight right past that kink. There was a set of bumps right at the beginning of my braking zone. You can definitely get a good feel for how the car reacts over bumps at racing speeds.

Nelson is very fun but very scary. Very few places to go off and not cause a bunch of damage.

BTW, kink in the back straightaway is around 95-100 mph for me in the Miata. Very fun.

I think the days of patching Nelson are long since gone after watching that. A total repave is the only way to save it. Too bad because it looks like it would be a lot of fun, flat but fun.

You should see the Chumpcars run around there. Some of them get a little air on the bump after the kink. Mainly because they're on craptastic suspension, but still.

Definitely gotta start braking before that hump at the end of the straight.

So it looks like I have an issue with my driver's side axle. The boot on it is no longer connected to the shaft and grease sprayed everywhere. Does anyone know if the boot can just be replaced or do I have to buy a new axle? I'm not sure how long it's been like this. If the boot can just be replaced, I hope the axle isn't damaged due to lack of grease.

No the boot can't be replaced. You can try jimmy rigging it back together and getting some fresh grease in there but you will have to replace the axle eventually. I got a used OEM one for $100 shipped a while back from one of the Mazda junkyards in CA, I ended up selling it to Jake.

I'll save you the time in research... Don't waste your time with cheap ones from Rock Auto or whatever, many people have reported that they break. New ones are $300-ish from Mazda Motorsports.
