The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

true true, god I hate having an expensive hobby. But I don't know about company to company but I just hope my agent comes through if I ever do pop. I'm getting up there in mileage so I start to worry about her when I'm autocrossing and especially on my upcoming track day at Mid Ohio. I'm actually really nervous about that.

No The 17x8's won't be for sale for a long time. I finally have a set up I'm happy with and I think the powder coating for those wheels will be from mom and dad for christmas. Same color just a little more durable. Plasti-dip doesn't like to get hot.

Couldn't I just have my dad come get me with the trailer and take it home and say I was driving down the road when it popped? They don't know it happened there. If it ever does go I'll stock out the motor stuff and pay my $500 deductible and get a fresh engine with labor money left over because I will do it myself. Last time I asked my agent if my engine was covered he said it is so I'm hoping he keeps to his word

I mean... you could, but that would kinda be insurance fraud. I got lucky with my engine being replaced by insurance, but I don't know how many companies really do that. Mine was caused by a flash flood, and was filed as flood damage.

at the time, my agent hinted that they would pay to replace my engine if I said it was because I ran over a deer or something... didn't even try, don't think the adjuster would have bought that kind of story lol

You've gotta pay to play man. That's all there is to it. There's a reason I haven't been active in any of the auto-x or track events. I simply cannot afford a worst case scenario. While I'm bummed about it, it's kinda for the best because I won't be one of those people sitting here bitching that I can't drive the car that I'm still paying for because something happened that ****** it all up. Instead, I've been sitting here bitching about how my car is an absolute pain in the ass and I'm not able to get it 100% right because I can't afford it.

floods don't put windows in blocks. Thats what I am nervous about. But there are plenty of people putting way more stress on their motors than me and they are fine. So hopefully everything goes well Labor Day weekend and its all fun.

yeah... I definitely didn't need to make anything up. The tow truck driver had to help push my car out of almost 2 ft of water in order to hook it up. LOL.

The **** they don't. Come look at my spare block sitting in my garage when you get a chance.

Oh man I didn't know that. It would have to be perfect timing lol. But idk what I would do probably just tough it out and buy evan's spare and replace it. Nothing more I can do other than take a huge loss on the car and sell it which is not happening.

Your insurance company will cover your motor under a warranty if it pops? That's pretty awesome. I would get something in writing first though. Then you have nothing to worry about.

If it makes you feel better my motor has 147k miles on it and a loose timing chain and hasn't popped yet. Yet.

Don't forget to sign up for MazaspeedMotorsports. Then you can buy a replacement for $3500 shipped too! But I totally understand that's a huge junk of money. I would never have had that kind of money available if I didn't sell the P5 to Wes and buy a spare motor as insurance to play this game we're into trying to destroy our cars.

Yeah. Water does not compress. If you suck in enough water, and have enough force acting on it... it'll snap a rod in an instant. I can't find the old rod from this, but it was bent, twisted, and snapped in half. We're talking a B18C rod also, which has a bit more mass than most Mazda rods.

Ah sorry, thought you meant you picked up on last night's episode. Carry on then and get yo ass caught up! :p Sorry for any spoilers.

Touche on the winning team but if I went by distance to campus I'd be a PSU fan. blech Never could stand the Nittany Lions either but somehow I married a fan. haha

Completely dumb, stupid, asinine and give them time. If the money is right we'll see Boise or any other hot West team merge with the Big East.

Not a fan of Nittany Lion fans either, all I ever heard was how OSU cheats. All schools "cheat". Big East/American conference is pretty much old Conference USA since most of the teams in the conference now played in that conference and it's no longer considered a BCS conference after this year. I think we'll see 4 conferences of 16 - 18 schools or 5 conferences of 12 - 14 schools before too long. Big 12 will either add a bunch of schools or be ransacked soon.

Patrick, perhaps you should look into getting insurance for the HPDE event you are registered for. Check out ontrackinsurance.com. They were able to provide coverage for a one time event, unlike other providers that required a multiple event policy.

Will it notify or show up anywhere that i got that policy? I just don't want my insurance to get told that I'm doing it then have to beg my insurance not to drop me or put me to high risk

you cant have your cake and eat it too... like others said, you gotta pay to play, its not wise to go out and do all these racing events and s*** if you cant afford to rebuild the if the worst case scenario happens...

If you are that worried about your insurance, then dont track the damn car... sorry if thats blunt, but i dont know how else to put it for you...

I'm not sure if people have been dropped for HPDE. Technically that isn't racing. I didn't think autocross was technically racing either, but as other have pointed out, insurance companies think otherwise. I read some stories online of people getting dropped for participating in autocross. Boggles my mind that autocross is racing, but HPDE isn't .. just because one has a timer running. What's stopping someone in HPDE using a timer or recording their laps and extrapolating time from that?

i look at HPDE, track days, autocross and anything of similar nature in the same regard, can i afford to break/wreck something and have my only car down for any amount of time? NO, ok then im not doing it right now... who the hell cares if Insurance knows etc etc, if i can afford to fix the car myself or write it off, then insurance doesnt have to ******* know... if i cant afford to fix it and am relying on insurance to cover it, i probably shouldnt be on the track... but hey thats just my (2cents)
not like (2cents) is worth jack s*** nowadays anyway lol

This isn't just about making a claim from breaking something while doing one of these events. This is just participating at one of these events and being dropped!

It goes like this:
Have you ever used your car at a racing event?
Yes.
Dropped.

Think about how they market autocross vs HPDE. Autocross is meant to be a timed competition so naturally, people will push their car very hard to compete. HPDE is meant to be a learning experience where there is no competitive pressure to push your car hard.
