The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

ill just buy evans old motor if i pop mine, probably for 100 bucks. kinda like the transmission on the protege. youre good with that deal right evan? lol

you cant have your cake and eat it too... like others said, you gotta pay to play, its not wise to go out and do all these racing events and s*** if you cant afford to rebuild the if the worst case scenario happens...

If you are that worried about your insurance, then dont track the damn car... sorry if thats blunt, but i dont know how else to put it for you...

i look at HPDE, track days, autocross and anything of similar nature in the same regard, can i afford to break/wreck something and have my only car down for any amount of time? NO, ok then im not doing it right now... who the hell cares if Insurance knows etc etc, if i can afford to fix the car myself or write it off, then insurance doesnt have to ******* know... if i cant afford to fix it and am relying on insurance to cover it, i probably shouldnt be on the track... but hey thats just my (2cents)
not like (2cents) is worth jack s*** nowadays anyway lol

All that needs to be said about the subject has been said right here. Multiple times in fact.

The NCAA only chooses to catch a fraction of them. That's where the problem is. It's so hard to be a fan of college sports when you know none of them follow the rules.

that and some are better at it than others. NCAA is a joke to me.

as far as tracking a car, never done it because I'm a lousey mechanic but I will in the future (next year). I can always ride my bike to work worse case scenario.

I can afford to fix it I just don't want to have to. I have a good car and have taken care of it but it's still in the back of my mind that something may happen to my baby. Money isn't the issue its the fact that I will exhaust the options that will save the money I worked to save before I go and drop the cash to get a new motor or whatever the part may be. I will track the car because that is how I enjoy enjoy the car is by doing what I built her to do not by driving leisurely to a meet to talk about all the money I spent on her. I will show why I spent the money I did.

But I will look into the track insurance tonight. I will weight the risks and costs of both sides. It's my first track day so of course I will be nervous like any car enthusiast/lover would be. So I'm asking all the questions I can think of before I go

I'm not sure if people have been dropped for HPDE. Technically that isn't racing. I didn't think autocross was technically racing either, but as other have pointed out, insurance companies think otherwise. I read some stories online of people getting dropped for participating in autocross. Boggles my mind that autocross is racing, but HPDE isn't .. just because one has a timer running. What's stopping someone in HPDE using a timer or recording their laps and extrapolating time from that?

Read all of the exclusions in your policies folks, it is all spelled out in all of the long paragraps. Hell, you don't need to get your insurance from a company, just make sure that you have enough cash to have a bond?

In Ohio, it is illegal to drive any motor vehicle without insurance or other financial responsibility (FR) proof. It is also illegal for any motor vehicle owner to allow anyone else to drive the owner's vehicle without FR proof.

Section 4509.101 of the Ohio Revised Code prohibits an individual from operating a motor vehicle in Ohio without maintaining proof of FR continuously throughout the registration period with respect to that vehicle, or in the case of a driver who is not the owner, with respect to that driver's operation of that vehicle. The law requires financial responsibility in the minimum amount of $12,500 for bodily injury to or death of one individual in any one accident, $25,000 for bodily injury to or death of two or more individuals in any one accident, and $7,500 for injury to the property of others in any one accident.

Now, you don't have to worry about an insurance company dropping you, if you have the minimum required by the state! Problem sovled.

But there is insurance available for HPDE events. So you don't really have to be able to write the car off if you'll get a check cut for the value of your car. Autocross on the other hand, I don't know about insurance for that other than people have been dropped for having no claims related to autocross. I've always used 'write-off' cars for autocross.

Got give a huge shout out to Mishimoto, they are sending me my replacement radiator! The no questions asked policy is on the up and up! I just had to pay for shipping! Maybe Spicy will be in Toledo that weekend!!!

Grumpy cat says no.

Towing it there doesn't count.

Ooooh, I'm a dick today. Look out! haha

Oh, and if any of you MS3 or MS6 guys do blow your motor, of course I would offer you mine as a replacement. That's a given. The price, however, depends on how much I like you. Haha, But I kinda figured it as the "just in case" motor for all of us. As long as you pay me back so I can have another replacement shipped to me. :)

You'll be fine. It's going to feel like you are going tremendously fast but in actuality you aren't going to be even close to the limits of the car unless you do something really stupid, which I highly doubt. I've done a lot of track days and spectated at a bunch more and I've never seen anyone in a novice group get into an accident.

If you need to get insurance to give yourself piece of mind that's one thing, but I don't believe you will need it. Go out there have fun and be safe.

Towing it there doesn't count.

Zing!

LOL thats ridiculous. we were also speculated to die on december 21st 2012, and y2k was supposed to happen. the earth was also flat and we could fall off the edge. lmao. "a meteor will probably hit the earth" all of this stuff will "probably" happen. i can say i will probably make 100k next year but that doesnt make it true. s*** like that is ridiculous. trying to predict the future of billions of years hahahahah

You have a much higher chance of wrecking your car on the way to the track than you do while on the track. On the track, everyone is driving the same direction and for the most part (open-passing groups excluded), other cars are much more predictable.

Wined and dined the Miata after work today and took her out for her first photo shoot. Now the craigslist ad has very nice pictures for all to see. Also changed the verbage from never raced to never abused, which was the original intent. Hopefully this appeases the Craigslist Critics (lulz).

Not a timed event but they surely won't cover anything that happens at one.
sometimes they do. I think it's a HUGE if and wouldn't count on it.

Rear main leak + turbo. From the green miata. Would slip under load (like 3rd WOT at low-ish speeds)

The dealership that Jessie works at got a MS6 in on trade. It only has like 60-70k miles on it and she can buy it for around $11k. I'm not sure if I should recommend that car to her; there is also a MZ3 hatch there she likes which is a 2010 with a lot less miles that she might be able to get a good deal on as well. Well in any case, a new(er) Mazda may be in the cards for her.

Phen, Marlon, Lauri & Fez will remember these about racing

M3 with temp tags at nelson ledges, red ms6 at nelson ledges, black lambo at nelson ledges, stupercharged fukus zx3 that went off course at nelson ledges, race prepared civic at beave run & an audi on the on ramp to the turn pike from beave run. I'll dig up the pics later of some of them.
