The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Jess, more than likely for this....

Usually it's people's retarded hillbilly attitude about them, all "yee haww nascar," "Murika!" and "it'll smoke your little Japanese rice burner," plus the generally ignorant owners and such. Oh, and the fact that most are American, the whole hot rod scene, muscle cars, I find all of it unappealing.

(popcorn) im not gonna say anything, im just gonna sit here eat some popcorn and watch the show hahahaha

What about these V8's...

We ended up eating at Melt. It was pretty damn good. I liked my wife's sandwich I lot better than my Monte Cristo, but it was still an awesome place. No wait, quick service, and the waitress recommended some good stuff.

I'm surprised you didn't have to wait. What time did you go?

My favorite is the Parmageddon

How was BeaveRun this past weekend, Evan? I kept meaning to text you and see how you were doing.

ps- It's always hard not to yell "Hey Number two!" when I see you, from Scrubs.

Hey number one!!! HAHAHA

I went there on Friday (they used to have it on Sunday but they moved it to Friday for some reason). I had a blast and the car performed verrrrrry well. There were a lot of unhappy Porsche and Vette drivers...I would be if my $50,000+ sports car was getting passed by a red wagon HAHA.

Thanks to my new rotors and EBC Yellowstuff pads, the brakes did not fade at all! Plus, the car stopped AMAZINGLY. I know this track is known for killing brakes as it's pretty short and has a lot of turns. I went over Marc's on Thursday and swapped the rotors and pads (Thanks again for letting me use your tools and awesome lift Marc!!!!).

Those are DBA 4000 T3 front rotors and I also got Centric Premium oem rotors for the rear (you don't really need anything fancy for the rears as they don't do much). The DBA rotors are freakin awesome. I actually didn't buy DBA for the front. I ordered Centric blanks about a month ago and last Monday they still hadn't shipped. I contacted KNS Brakes to let them know I was racing Friday and NEEDED these rotors. They hooked me up because they were still waiting for the rotors from the manufacturer (been out of stock for a while). They substituted the DBA rotors at no additional cost and shipped them that day. The DBA rotors were about $150-200 more than the Centrics, so I was really happy. Talk about awesome customer service!!!!

For the track day, they have 3 groups. Groups 1 and 2 are in the morning, both with an instructor. Group 3 runs in the afternoon without any instructors. Basically, the way they determined groups 1 and 2 was pretty simple. They asked everyone to raise their hand if they've been at the track before. If you raised your hand, you were put in group 2. I was put in group 2 since I had been there last October.

After my first session, my instructor felt I was ready to run solo and move up to group 3. He had another instructor ride with me for my 2nd session, who also felt I was ready to run solo in group 3. They both signed me off and said I can sign up for 3 the next time I come, or still sign up for 2 if I still want instruction. I think if I do another track day there, I'll probably sign up for 2 again for 2 reasons. 1....it's in the morning and my car LOVES the cold. 2...there's not that many people running in the morning, so the track is less crowded. LOL

My 3rd session I ran solo and it was pretty epic. I was chasing a Lotus Exige S260 FE, who was chasing a Z06 Vette with slicks (505hp). I think my driver mod was much better because I was right behind them the whole session. They did pull slightly on the straights, but I was out-braking them. I guess I had bigger balls because I was braking very late HAHA.

All of the money I put into my car before the season really showed as the car was MUCH more stable and predictable through the turns. Nitto NT01 tires are freakin awesome btw!! Super sticky!!!!!

I just registered for the June 30th HPDE event at Mid-Ohio so I can't wait to run that track.

^ you (and anyone else) has gotta let me know when you are going to beaver run... Its like 30-40 mins from my place, i will try to come up and help out/hang out at that track

That's awesome, Evan. BeaveRun sounds like a cool place I need to try and make it out there sometime. I wish I could make it out to the NASA event at the end of the June at Mid-Ohio with you and the other Mazda folks that will be there.

Did you take any video?

For those of you that are going to Lime Rock in September... We are looking at booking a 2 floor suite 16 miles from the track. It has a queen size sleeper sofa that will be available if someone wants to split the room with us. Jen and I are putting in for the vacation time and as long as we get the time off we are going.

haha wow I forgot you lived so close. I mentioned that I was going in this thread, but it's hard to keep up on every post. I went on Friday and it was in the morning. I'm not sure what you're work days are, but you were probably sleeping or working at 8am haha. I'll let you know next time I head out there.

Ya, I really like BeaveRun because it's short, but definitely keeps you busy. They're under new management so they changed the name to Pittsburgh International Race Complex. BeaveRun was so much easier to say HAHA. I was talking to an instructor and he mentioned they're adding a new section to the track next year. It's going to be the South Track and I found the track layout plans on their site http://pittrace.com/page_trackmap.html It looks pretty sweet. I did see some construction vehicles and bulldozers but I had no idea they were working on a South Track.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any video. I got a couple videos of other race cars (McLaren MP4-12C was sexy) but they're from my phone and not very steady lol. I'm going to look into getting a GoPro for Mid-Ohio because I would love to analyse my laps and times to see if I'm actually improving.

here's something random, I'm missing a fork... I have 1 at work and 4 at home, can't find the 6th one for the life of me...

worked on the Sonata yesterday, power steering is fixed and working on the AC compressor tonight. Had pumpkin remembered to bring the brake fluid with him, I'd be working on that this week... tisk tisk

That is pretty cool. It's going to be a completely different course?

I borrowed a GoPro from a friend this past weekend and I'm totally sold on them.

from the looks of the map it has the capabilities to be its own seperate track or connect with the north track for a big circuit

Ya that's what it looks like. I wonder when it will be finished...I'm definitely looking forward to running a full course haha

i used to spend alot of time at BeaveRun....
used to do Karting enduro's on the wilson track with some of the pitt guys, get 4 or 5 guys and its like 40-50 bucks a person, the enduro lasted like 2 hours so each guy got a 20-30 mins sessions in the kart

your arms were on fire by the end and your ribs would be in pain for the next few days but was totally worth it, and id LOVE to get a few guys to go do it again hahahaha

plus all the "impromptu" autocrosses with rob and fatti and even the super rare snow cross (autocross event on a day it snowed like 3-4") that event was unbelievably fun!
