What I'd like to see implemented in every sport is that when you are a rookie, you get a 1yr contract and make the minimum. If you produce then you can sign a multi-year contract for millions. All these damn kids getting muli-million contracts and then either being a bust or getting injured and not playing is downright ridiculous.
That is one thing that should be in the next CBA for the NFL. Both the owners and the players agree that it's getting crazy and that the money should be spent on proven players, not rookies. Just have to see how well they develop that plan. The owners want minimum money and players locked into contracts for 5 years at this minimum pay. Well when the average career length of an NFL player because of injury and such is 3-5yrs, I don't think the players will agree to that length of contract, but the money should be agreed upon easily.
