The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Nate, those wheels look friggin awesome.

Phen, I can't believe it weighs that much for a car that old. That's about 1k lbs more than most cars that I'm interested in..

Nate, 18's look a little too big on Protege's, IMO. Phen picked up some 18's last week and we slapped them on for kicks.

Chris, I like my Blizzaks a lot. You can usually find them on Craigslist for cheap. As far as the other tires, I haven't had them so I can't comment. Online tire reviews are always so weird. One cat loves the tires, the next cat says they're garbage.

I did some thinking about summer and winter tires today. I was thinking about Bridgestone Potenza RE760, Dunlop Direzza DZ101 and Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 for my summer tires and either Bridgestone Blizzak WS60 or Dunlop Graspic DS-3 for my winters. Any recommendations or ideas?

I would go with the Dunlop Direzzas. I have heard good things about them. Snow tires, I love my Dunlop Wintersports M3s. They're great in the snow, but handle very well in the dry without being overly soft.

Blizzaks are great tires, but at $99/ea...when I can get the dunlops for $71/ea....Anything's gonna be better than running all season's. I've never had seasonal tires. I'd snag another set of the Bridgestone Potenza G009's for my summer set if they were still avail. I've had 2 sets of them and I couldn't be happier. I know summer tires aren't going to last as long as an all season, but I'd like to have a set of tires last a little while.

I've had my Dunlops for 3 seasons now and I still have enough for another season.

Dunlop makes a great tire. I was a fan of the Dunlop SP5000's that came with the car from the factory. Yeah, they didn't last long or get any traction what so ever in bad weather, let alone snow. But, that's why I'm getting a set of tires for each season.

So if they were crappy why are you a fan? I are confused...

I liked the Khumo Ecsta SPT's that Jon put on his Enkei's when I bought them. I also like Falkens tires and they are inexpensive. I've had a few sets of Ziex's and FK's. I'll let you know how I like the Yokohama Paradas in a few weeks.

They weren't made for bad weather let alone snow. But when the roads were dry and temps were up...there wasn't a tire that could touch them. That's what they were designed for. I'm one of the few people that got more than 30k on them. I ended up getting just shy of 40k and still had tread left when I replaced them.

Not really sure why Chipmunk decided to use my car for the flyer since I've only been on track 20mins total. heh-heh. But Bills car is badass, fo sho. Nice work on the poster, guys. :)

only $125 or less per wheel has me thinking. but I still have my racingharts with the previously mentioned dunlops that still have alot of life left. Don't think I could get much for them though

I don't think it looks bad

two votes for the dunlops

I wouldn't recommend Falkens to anyone. I have the 912s on there and they are okay at best. I also had some 512s for a while and they were just garbage.

I need new tires too and I am seriously considering getting a set of the Kumho XS or I know someone at an NTB that offered to hook me up with some Sumitomo HTRIII. Not sure what I want to do yet.

3200 lbs is heavy? Rather light IMO for a car as big as it is.

the hub bore is only 56.1 so I'd have to get them bored out.

Well, just as a comparison that may be more up your alley... a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T was a hair over 3400 lbs.

Good morning from Paducah, KY... hehe Paducah... It looks like I'll be making the Barber race after all. I'll be released here Friday around 4pm CDT so I can drive back, drop off the rental around midnight, walk home, sleep 5-6 hrs, wake up, and drive 3 hrs to the track in Miata for the race. Now that's dedication!

btw.... The company gave me a "free upgrade" to a crappy SUV that sucks in MPG and has a tire out of balance. There is nothing like listening to "whump whump whump" for 7 hrs straight.

Quoted from Car and Driver, the 3 isnt THAT much bigger

"The wheelbase, common to both body styles, has been stretched to 103.9 inches, 1.1 inches longer than the Proteg and among the longest in this class, a plus in the ride department. At 176.6 inches, the new five-door is 6.1 inches longer than the Proteg5. Height remains about the same at 57.7 inches, but width has been expanded two inches, from 67.1 to 69.1, and there's a corresponding gain in front and rear track dimensions: 60.2/59.6 inches for the 3 versus 57.7/57.9 for the Proteg5."

6'' longer is quite a difference in my book. also, 2'' wider track is nice too.

i got over 60K on my original dunflops on my protege5!
yeah, all 4 had tread separation when i got rid of them. lol.
wasnt paying attention to the inside wear.

Morning all. Confirmed that my dance classes start next Monday night but I'll miss the first one, Kaila is being inducted into the NJHS!!! So proud of her and as much as I hate getting up in front of people I'll be happy to be on stage come recital time.
