The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Star Specs and R-comps don't stretch too well.

Haha

I dunno, personally, I think aggressive fitment looks sick. Do I want it on my car? Yeah, but not if it's going to prevent me from driving it how I want to drive it. So, in the end, I don't have it. Seems simple enough to me.

The whole crap with the crowd and acting like they have a hard life or are hardcore because they're repressed by the man or whatever, that's a bunch of BS. If I went out and broke my neck on purpose and then was like "guys, feel sorry for me, I'm in a wheelchair." That's stupid, I caused it. Are these the new wave of emo kids that sit around and talk about "how no one understands them?"

I don't get the whole "I need to look good to impress people" thing. I never have. I don't buy fancy clothes or things to impress people. That is just so shallow. If other people end up liking what I do or buy, cool, great story bro. I know way too many people that sit around and talk about their phones like it's a person or something... I'd rather have friends that appreciate me because I've got a great sense of humor, and am totally immodest. Well, jk about that bit.

I guess cars like that are more like models, all primped up to look "perfect" and they don't have any personality. I think I might be too down to earth/realistic to get sucked into this. I don't act like it doesn't appeal to me, but the people that do it definitely don't. I guess it's like the girl that you want to bang, but only if she's not allowed to talk. Yeah, you know the one I'm talking about.

^ hahahahahaha @ the girl you wanna bang but never wanna hear her talk hahaha

i was thinking that today about herblenny's rx7.... i said i didnt want to see him win this month cause frankly he hasnt done anything to it since he won last year and his pics this month are pretty crappy IMO....another member says he wins all the time cause his car deserves it..... i was going to post his car is like that girl in high school you always wanted to bang/see naked but 5 years after high school you see her working a pole at a local strip club and are like "damn, shes not that special...." hahaha

cant wait to put 18X8's on my ms3 with 235/40. sorry but the wider the better but i guess im lucky enough to have the driver mod to enjoy them. i am the akron terror. lmao.

235? I think I have convinced myself to try 245 in the summer. I figure 245/40 will fit with a 3 or 5mm spacer. I am a noob though, not sure if this will work. Then a BC Coilover suspension to set the car down, eliminating wheel gap, but not slamming it. Plus it will handle so good on the track...I can't wait either!

im going 235 cause of wheel rub even with a controlled set up. 245 and two to three friends= rub(unless you roll the fenders)

Yeah, I know....it's in the plans. I figure at some get together in the spring we will manage to "find" a fender roller again...or a shop down the street can probably do it for next-to-nothing.

AAHAHAHHAHA I HAZ NO FRIENDS

No friends=No wheel rub

I've heard from other guys that I can fit 245's on my car, but I haven't come close to even breaking the 215's lose on the street. Granted, my car's a few hundred pounds lighter than your guys new stuff. Even on the track, I'm not sure that the cornering grip could make up for the difference in unsprung weight. Sure it might look aggressive, but...

Very, very true. That is a point at which I weigh the options of form and function. My argument is that is: If it still performs better than stock (in this case, 215/45) than it is a worthwhile upgrade. Then I decide what LOOKS best. And you are right about the grip and all that jazz--it probably isn't worth it--but I am weighing out looking cool with 245 and having nice grip or being okay with 235 and having slightly better grip. Also take into account I've never tracked my car yet, besides a MidOhio Parade Lap...so it's not like I am an avid racer, 245's would probably be sweet looking and still provide better function than stock.

I dunno, 235's are fine too. I honestly sort of don't care and still haven't made up my mind. Being in college, price plays a huge factor, and 235's may just be a better deal.

Go for what you like best. I like a beefy tire if it's on the right wheel and car.

Wider doesn't always mean stickier. If you don't generate enough heat in a tire or all the way across the contact patch, it won't stick any better. I have no experience with the MS3's but my 8 will barely overheat my 245's on an AutoX course and I've never got them hot enough to squirm on the street. I'm running Yoko all-seasons at the moment too. Don't hate, they came brand new on the wheels so I couldn't justify spending the coin on new tires knowing I wouldn't be at any HPDE's this year.

I can't wait for next spring to get some star specs and get to the track!

Last closing statements before sleep:

M3's are awesome. Buddy had a heavy-modded E36 that had a strong, FAST engine, but electrical problems forced him to sell. Probably slightly quicker than my MS3, and far better handling.

I agree, I love a beefy tire. Are 245's overkill? God yes! Would they look awesome? God yes! Can too wide a tire hurt handling? I don't think these woul dbe considered too wide...Unless they significantly hurt performance (from stock, I am still going to be lighter on my OZs...) I think they would be pretty sweet. Only time and money will tell what I get next summer. But I need something because my current wheels are shot to the point where I have to take the OZs off and put the stockers back on sooner than I would like--like in the next 2 weeks...

drove an 04 M3 tonight. Jizzed my pants. That is all.

Oh no... I've got a friend and all he talks about are M3's... In fact the only companies he likes are Ford and BMW.. go figure. Yet he works at Classic Honda. It's this alone that has perhaps permanently turned me off of BMW's.

Sucks about the current setup.

I don't think 245's would be overkill and hurt performance. It was just more information spewing since we were on the agressive topic.

My buddy has an e36 M3 with a half cage and almost full track suspension that runs 1:47's a Mid-Ohio. Only power mod is an s50 manifold swap. They can be super fast cars on track.

On another side note, I'll be welcoming a MS3 to my family early next month. What the wife wants, the wife gets. Once she gets that, i get to go to the track, so all will be well. Maybe I'll slap my wheels on it for a few pics for the aggressive fitment thread to stir the pot a bit.

I haven't read the thread in a little while, just skimmed through to get caught up. I have been running 225/45r17's Dunlop Direzza star specs with a 48mm offset on the track/street for two years. Yesterday, picked up a set of 17x8.5 38mm offset Enkei PF01's, wrapped in 245/40R17 Direzza's. I had to roll my fenders in the back for the 225's. I run -.5 camber in the back so they are pushed out further than stock at the top. The 245's Really stick out far! I am going to have to do some major massaging of the fenders to keep them from rubbing. Oct 2nd and 3rd I will be at mid ohio running my car. I plan on running both set's of wheels and tires and comparing the data. Have a new way to measure G's, mph and lap times. Will also record tire temps across the surface. I'm really eager to see the difference. This winter I am pulling the motor and trans and by spring should be north of 400whp. That is the reason for the increase in rubber. Here are some before and after pics.
