The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Is he doing any work on 1st gen's too??

We discussed it today and he'll be looking into it as well. So the 1st gen speed 3's and 6's will be able to get the upgrades as well. he is goingto get me dyno numbers, etc today or tomorrow.

My father simply can't be my biological father...

-he came over Saturday to detail my moms VW Bug. He was going to wash it with water and Kerosene. Then I talked him into adding at least some car wash soap... Then he scrubbed the dirt and tar off the doors, fenders and quarter panels with the green course scrubber side of a dish sponge. I tried to fix the scratches with rubbing compound to no avail. Then he wanted to touch up the chips with a yellow paint pen, but insisted the color underneath be white and not the primer I offered. So we ran to Autozone for a white paint pen. Then he got sucked into the ricer aisle. I told him to get out of there. He was honestly looking at the stickers with flames coming from a fake vent and trying to find a "Mayhem" sticker. (He's still on this "Mayhem" kick). We got back to the house and instead of using the ball point end of the paint pen, he used the brush. So instead of a little chip there was a huge white glob. And the yellow paint pen was mostly dried up. So my mom got her car back worse than it was... Next time I'll have to supervise him working on any automobiles.

Now that I think about it, he used to assemble my bikes as a kid. I would cautiously ride them in the driveway until I got home then i would tighten all the nuts/bolts and re-thread the pedals so they weren't cross threaded. Guess that's when I first started wrenching on my whip when i was a little kid. Haha

If anyone knows who my real father is, please tell him I miss him. (wiggle)

Wow, you have that entire Corsa car care kit and he choose not to use those products? He could have saved himslef a lot of time and trouble if he would have used the Corsa products.

You have my sympathies, Evan!

Ok, well here is an update on the MSP, the tranny has arrived, the Fidanza flywheel and Exedy Stage 1 Clutch have shipped.....just waiting on the parts to arrive and have it put back togther.

Hopefully it will all be done by the end of September, early October for a NASA event @ Putnam Park.

You're going to love that combination - that's what I had on my P5. Great holding power and smooth engagement. Quicker shifts with the flywheel too! I'm still trying to get used to the clutch/flywheel combos on the RX-7 and my truck and it's been over a year since I've had the P5.

I can't wait, especially with the flywheel, as the turbo will spool up a lot quicker and improved throttle response as well.

What kind of upgrades are you talking about here? I have a 1st gen :)

They've cracked the ECU for the 2010 Speed 3 and they're going to star working on the 1st gen speed 3's and 6's. So far that have produced an additional 70 hp..

I wantz Fidanza... (sad2)

Do you guys have opinions on Spec's Lightweight flywheel for the Protege? I think it's 6.8 lbs vs fidanza's 7lbs (7.X?).

Hopefully I'll be going to a LW flywheel next spring...

Hell ya!! Is that extra 70hp on a stock setup?

Is the 1st gen ECU similar to the 2nd gen? If so, it might not be that difficult then.

Well, that's Phens car care kit so I just leave it alone unless he's using it and I ask him.

Evan... I... am your father...
Miss you too buddy.

How come I'm older than you, Dad?

My offer still stands if you want to swap out the tranny at my place, Marlon. No pressure though.

For me the turbo actually spooled more slowly in the lower gears but throttle response was immediate and like I said before, I could shift much, much faster. I suppose it has to do with the inertia of the flywheel and the load on the engine. I couldn't build more the 1-2 psi in 1st gear, but had no problem hitting 10+ psi in 3rd and 4th.

I just noticed your sig. How do you like the Jetta TDI? I was looking at a sportwagen manual and kinda liked it. I drive mostly highway so i think a diesel would work for me. I just wish diesel was cheaper.

We've had it a little over a week now and put almost 2k miles on it. We got it because my wife drives 90+ miles a day and we always take her car for long trips. I actually haven't driven it yet because my wife won't let me but it seems nice enough. It's definitely bigger and quieter than the old Protege and has a ton more features. Ours is an auto and we managed 41 mpg on the first tank and I'll know the second tank tonight, but it had over 540 miles on it I know that much. Most diesel I see is $2.90-$3.00 per gallon so it really isn't too much more expensive than gasoline.

I personally liked the Sportwagons better too (I like the new front end style) but my wife wouldn't have it. We decided on the 2010 because even though I like the 2011 style better I couldn't live with all the cut backs their implementing (doesn't apply to the Sportwagons).

Whatever happened to just posting pics. In all honesty everyone who is slammed knows it.... because they've had to ziptie fenderliners, grind coilover collars, hammer the **** out of something just to get another .100" lower and probably don't even care about a list...

F-IN TRUE THAT(rei)

now that the tapes come out and the tapes show they arent that slammed they wanna go back to subjection... LMAO!!!

cool.

yeah, it would be my protege replacement. the auto is at least the kind of auto i can deal with. i also agree with the 2010 vs 2011. i dont like the cutbacks either. i think it will be only a matter of time before the sportwagen gets them too.

i would love to get one of them tdi cup editions, but no one has them in stock.

with the baby, i need more room in my car if i want anyone in the seat in front of the baby seat. right now, the front passenger seat is very cramped in my protege. my only problem with the jetta is the price. it will be over 26k for what i want. at that price i could get a 2010 mazda5 and have a lot of money left over for gas mileage difference. the only problem with that, is that then i would have 2 mazda5s. (i secretly want another 08, but a sport with the manual to be a project car. my own MS5 project!)

basically, my next car needs to get over 40mpg. highbrids dont do it for me, since none of the practical ones are manuals. and they are really boring.
