All this talk about helmets... Doesn't NASA still allow Snell 1990 (SA or M) or newer helmet ratings? Would it be appropriate to assume NASA would still allow Snell 2005-rated helmets until as late as 2025?

NASA seems to be pretty lenient regarding "expired" safety equipment like helmets and harnesses provided they are in good condition. I don't know SCCA's regulations as well, but I don't really plan on autocrossing.

Jon, I bet it all really depends on what event you're running and who is doing the tech/safety inspection. Some times they won't care but I'll probably end up getting that one inspector who doesn't let me run with an "expired" helmet. I know the cat at Mid-Ohio checked Lauri's Snell number at tech.

It just sucks because before i did more research on helmets I was looking at some on eBay that were really nice, barely used and a great price. But alas, they are "expired". Boo.
