The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

don't hate on rota's...we have them for our 3 and we love them

and we also powder coated the stock wheels and it makes them look so much better :)

From what I've read, if they do it right it doesn't harm the wheels, only if they don't do it properly. Too much heat, I guess?

Anodizing shouldn't affect structural integrity right?

Right... but I'd be hesitant to just try a place unless I know they're not idiots, ya know?

If Rota would make wheels aside from 18" in a 67.1 bore & 5x114.3, I would get some... But they don't have much to offer for 67.1 bore & 5x114.3 in a 16" or 17"

Fair enough... How much does anodizing run for wheels? I'd rather not have to paint them at all... but we'll see how it works out. I would prefer to not run spacers or alter the wheels original finish.

Any of you guys ever ran "Speedy Wheels"? I've never even heard of them, but I kinda like these...

Don't worry about the bore so much. As long as it's greater than or equal to 67.1 mm you'll be fine - you'll just have to use hub rings. The RPF1's only come in a 73 mm (IIRC) hub size so you'd have to run hub rings either way.

You think 67.1 mm is bad, try 59.6 mm...

My offer still stands on the test fit.

have not heard of them but i do like them

Ya, I'd like to avoid using hub adapters, but I guess it doesn't matter. I'm interested in the test fit... I'll actually be house sitting @ my parents house in Landen all next week, so it would be really easy for me to meet up one night or something. It's probly 10-15 minutes from where you live, I bet.

How about these? I'm diggin them...

You know my suggestion :D

Look at your wheels as an investment. It may cost a little more right now to get the exact wheels you want in the exact size and all that jazz, but then you can have them for years and years and not get tired of them. Asthetically, I mean. I've had lots of sets of wheels and used to powdercoat them different colours all the time (I worked at a PC shop). But now that I've got the Enkeis, I just love them and I honestly don't think I would ever grow tired of them. But then again, I bought them used so I can't really talk. heh-heh

But I think it's really worth saving up an extra month or whatever you need to buy the wheels you want, not just cheap ones you can afford right now.

ps- I'm sure Grassroots Motorsports has tons of wheel shoot outs and reviews. I love that magazine, those guys seem to just say what they mean, no bulls*** and no swayed opinions of products because of advertising.

I feel you, I'm not going cheap cheap. That's why I would like to find a set used, but... there's some luck involved in that.

I think it's coming down to the Buddy Club SF's

but when the wheels are almost as much as the car is worth, the wheels I want may just seem a little crazy.

No... not really. Marlon is running some pretty big meats on his car.

Enkei RPF-1's Black with Yokohama AD048's but my feners are rolled and I have neg -3.0 camber in front and -1.5 in the rear..some rubbing issues with 2 people in the car.

We also run Kumho v710's 225/45/17 on our Kosei's we'll be running the Kumhos on Friday @ Mid-Ohio and then the Yokohamas on Saturday and Sunday

What's the offset on those RPF1's? I just want to be totally sure I'm not gonna have to worry about strut clearance...

Wheel Method Size Weight

5Zigen FN01R-C Cast 17x8 +43 17
Buddy Club P1 Racing SF Cast 17x7 +42 17.4

Do you guys think these would look right on my car?

I'm not sure how white on yellow/CF will look. Maybe I should just stick with Matte black on them...

i think white would look good, black gives you more of a sinister look with the hood and trunk

I like black wheels, I don't care if they've been labelled "played out" or a fad. But I also like white wheels but you gotta keep 'em clean!

I would say black. I had a set of 5Zigen's on my civic that I really liked, great quality but mine were heavy as hell. Ironically, I sold them to buy the upright bass I sold to buy the Enkeis. Just gotta remember to pronounce them "go jeegan".

I prefer the 5Zigens, black or bronze would look best IMO. the 17x8 +43 should be on target. Don't the FD guys run like 5 mm spacers for strut clearance and those are +50 mm IIRC.

EDIT: The car's too low in that pick though. I don't see that working with 17x8's and 225 series tires without like -3 degrees of camber.

Double EDIT: Hit me up on PM sometime. I'll be out of town pretty much every weekend but I have free time after 5 PM or so.

Heavy? What 5zigens were they? These 17x8's weigh 17lbs. ;)

Ya I think 17x8 +43 won't have any issues clearing the strut. Should be the perfect offset, actually...

Also, the guy who chopped that lowered my car a good 1/2" or so... lol So clearance shouldn't be an issue. Here's the original:

Here's the same pic with white.... I think I'm about to do this, haha. Gonna have to stay on it to keep em clean, but damn thats fresh... haha
