The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Cars are like religion or music or politics, there are many different options and everyone has an opinion on what is right and what is wrong. I try not to push my veiw unless asked so sorry if I have.

going to start on the car tomorrow, depending on how cold it is in the garage. I'm gonna start on the brakes, painting the rear calipers to match the front finally (Thanks for the paint Jasen) and change the front pads. Might get the fronts turned while I'm at it since I never made it to O'Reilly's for the gaskets and other odd and ends. Should be able to get the hood off and lay it on the roof so I have easy access to the engine bay. And of course go over all the parts to make sure I have everything I need.

I was referring to trailer queens anyway, cars that are spotless because they never get driven.

That was my car. It stayed in the garage unless it was sunny and dry. I spent and was spending so much money on not only parts but also the note that I couldn't afford to repair things that I might have burned out or ruined tracking the car. I couldn't dream of treating something so roughly that was my pride and joy. However my personality is why own it if you're not gonna drive it. So I slowly realized the car was just a waste of money and moved on from it. I enjoyed the car, was fun to drive on the rare occasion, but was scared to ding it. (thanks Nick)

Now my only vehicle is my Jeep. Simply because I realized it was all I wanted to drive in any weather or condition. So I even got rid of the Vibe which was still a good car and could hold some use at some point. However I didn't see me driving it and hadn't driven it in a couple weeks.

The same argument can be said about my Jeep however. People give me a hard time because I most likely wont take it off road anytime soon. As if what's the point if I'm not going to off road it. Again, I'm spending so much money on just owning it in general that I cannot afford to fix things that might break while off roading. If I had plenty of supplemental income I wouldn't think twice about it knowing I could just fix what broke and move on. So it's not always about what people should do with their car, it's what they can afford to do, or what they feel is logical or practical.

sounds like you can't Escape soon enough...

The vehicle is utter s***. I spend most of the time driving being annoyed at the dash blinking at me. Yes, I said blinking. You see, they do not give you the option to adjust the brightness of the dash lights when the headlights are on. Instead the super smart car computer decides when it should be bright or dim. So every 2-5 miles it goes dim, then bright, then dim, then bright, then dim, then bright.. on through out the day. The same could be said for the transmission, which cannot decide which gear it wants to be in at any given time.

For you guys who use HAWK pads, let me know when and if you need them, as Andrew Racing will offer Team Ohio as nice discount. Have a great day.......

Awesome, Let me know what you can do for my MS3

Are any of you Columbus guys going to the auto show. Was going to go see if anyone wants to meet up down there let me no.

I want to go, but every time i go i end up buying a new car including the MS3. Soooooooooo.......IDK yet!

I keep putting off my spring mods. I need to order my shocks and springs and swaybar.

WOW... really?

look the beauty of modding is building the car the way YOU want it

THIS is what I'm doing, building a car I can track. I don't look down on people who don't do the same, and I certainly don't push people into doing what I do.

If someone has a problem with what I say then let me know, I'll choose my words more carefully around you. Otherwise don't take me seriously, since most of the time I'm just being a JACKASS.

I have to agree with Brian (no one on this forum) on this one, people take things said on the forums/internet too seriously...

^No, I either missed it or became part of it even though I haven't said anything....I dunno....late night rambling....
I like all you guys, regardless of your ride...although guys who wear pink shirts and drive red miatas are a bit iffy in my book. Here's one for example:

Thinking I might have a bad rear wheel bearing. I heard a grinding sound going off the exit ramp today, and its the same side I slide into a crub when we had all the ice. Any ideas on how to check myself? It looks like I would just buy a whole rear hub to replace it if that is what's wrong. I know my brakes need changed but I wasn't on them when I heard the sound.

Thanks.

I might be totally wrong, but I think there's some way to wiggle it in the air with no load and see if it makes noises.

Yes jack up the car and try grabbing the wheel at the 3 and 6 oclock position and then the 12 and 6 if you have play in the wheel its more than likely a wheel bearing.

That will usually work, but I've had a couple go out that I could hear before they got loose. If you have a dry road (probably not today) you can swerve back and forth to load up each side. You will hear a bad bearing noise when it loads up on the one side and not the other. If its repeatable every time, it is probably a bad bearing. For the rear, definitely get the whole replacement hub, its really easy to change!

I am starting to wonder about Levi lately, kinda like a short fuse or something. No offense bud just hope all is well when you are not on-line.

LMAO

ive got a brother that is 7 years younger than i am and had to grow up with his intentional attempts to get under my skin cause i guess little brothers think its fun to try and piss of their big brothers..... but because of that, i have developed a long and slow burning fuse... its gotta be brewing at me for some time before i even think about snapping...

Yeah... this is exactly how I found the 2nd bad bearing in the MSM before it got too bad.

Ok. I'm going to say something only once about what was said in here yesterday.

Most of us know each other pretty well. There aren't many that someone doesn't see somewhat often. However, what bothers me is the fact that I said the exact same thing a couple weeks ago, and no one got upset or offended. Hell, I've told some of you this to your face. I'm not defending Levi here. I'm merely stating that I've already said this stuff, and no one gave a damn. The moment someone else says it, a lot of people that it may or may not have been directed at got upset (in this case, I think that people who got upset were NOT the ones the comment was directed to). That part is really unfortunate. It really bothers me to be honest. Especially because not so long ago, a few of us saw a complete meltdown of the Cleveland 6 Club. I wasn't even a founding member, or even one of the early guys to hop on board, but I loved everything that we did. Differences of attitude and mindset, and people not realizing what was happening tore that place up. There are times when things like this happen that I fear if s*** keeps up, this little group we've got going here may do the same. I'm all about clearing the air and getting s*** on the table so that it can be resolved quickly. I'm really bad about this though as Evan, Marlon, and Lauri know. I don't want to sound like I'm in charge of anything, or anything like that... but this Ohio section on this forum is my baby. I love knowing that we have one of the most active states both on and off the internet. Before I got this moderator title, this area was beyond dead. Now... it's freaking booming, and we have people coming onto the forum who only stay in our little "home."

Regarding "Team Ohio falling apart..." yeah, not happening. Levi expressed an opinion that has been bottling up for... probably 6 or so months. I know because I've been talking to him about it since I was in China. As I said before, I've said the exact same thing. The unfortunate thing is that it's forum-wide. Not just stuff going on here. It only really bothers me when it goes on with us locals. In a nutshell, here's my take on everything going on in the car culture. On one side, you have the hella-flush mad camber slammed folk. They have an attitude and "lifestyle" all their own and have no problem defending it. Well... this mindset pisses off the other side where most of us are... the "ok, my car's kinda modded but I can drive it and I like to." So... we don't understand their style, and we tell them that we think it's dumb. Ok... that's fine. But what happens in the long run (and I think it has all over this forum) is that the more we consider it dumb, the more we do to express why it's better and smarter to do the things we do to our cars. When we do this, we all developed an "elitist, my s***'s better than your s***" attitude. Whether any of us have sat and thought about it or not, it's true. Rather than accepting them as fellow car nuts, we've segregated ourselves because we have different definitions of building a car. I'm absolutely guilty of this.

So... while I rambled quite a bit, and probably said nothing of any importance, I just wanted to say that I agree with much of what was said, and I think that the reaction to what was said was a bit confusing to me... especially because I've already said just about everything that he said a month or so ago.

With this post, I'm going to say that anything else posted on this topic that isn't a thoughtful discussion will be cleaned up. I'm not going to deal with petty bickering just because someone had a difference of opinion.

Now... On to the good s***!
