The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

The great thing about a miata is it's a driver's car, and you had to row it during a spirited drive. I thing a S-G drivetrain with a 6-speed would be plenty of fun. s***, who cares if it was a diesel sipping 1.0L with only 100hp, provide it had 160+ TQ, it would be fun. Mixed with a 5200 max rev, you would definitely be connected to the car. Hell, that's one reason my FC is so fun to drive every day, even though it has somewhere around 98hp at the rear wheels, and less TQ than that.

The engine is the least important aspect of this particular car. I think the 155hp from the 2.0L Skyactiv-G would be plenty of power in a car that only weighs 2250lbs.

You are absolutely correct, provided it has a proper 6-speed manual.

Transmissions: SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual

That was one of the worst marketing efforts on Mazda's part I have seen in the 11 years that we have been involved in owning them! Duran, Duran! Really! No Specs revealed other than it is lighter and I have heard from my sources that it is down in HP by about 10. What a waste of an hour and money to produce this, weak ass event.

Like most of you, I will hold judgement until I see it in person. My initial impression is that I like the front and the side view, the rear I would like to see in person.
I watched 43 seconds and was no longer hungry like the wolf. I felt really bad for Mazda because this seemed like a huge event for the company.
Yeah, but everyone says it has to be 200 hp or it's s***. **** all that man. I've always had more fun in the lower power Miatas than I ever did with mine. Maybe I'm bitter because I never had good luck with the car, and could never afford to finish it, and completely gave up on it. Maybe I'm bitter because the average run of the mill fanboi who spouts off what they all want (but would never buy) has essentially made me despise cars in general. Maybe all of it. Maybe I'm truly passing up Evan as the grouchy old man of the group. I dunno.

I like the car.
Mazda said they're going back to their roots which was low weight and low power.
That's what I would buy. After it's released, and I drive it, and like it, who knows, maybe I'd get it.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh, i'm going nuts in my head over here and needed a vent. Sorry.
Grumpy Old Men - Phen & Evan Edition!

I'm with you, while another MSM might be cool down the road, 120ish hp would be plenty of fun in that car.

I love what I've seen but I already know I would never buy it. Just not what I would look for in a fun car at this point or the next 15 years of my life.

what did you expect the response to it would be from OMS? "does it have a turbo?" no "It needs 350-400 from the factory. I'm going to buy it that and a mazdaspeed diesel awd 6!"

OMS did not even say that, why do you have such a hard on for these guys? This is why this community is so ******* fractured and it is getting old! Can't the simpole minded bulls*** stop?

You can make the rear end angry. Really angry when the brakes light up

I'd love to see 200hp with a car that light but I also know Mazda well enough that it's more than likely wishful thinking haha

I really like it. The front reminds me of a S2000.

I agree the engine is not the most important aspect. That being said Mazda already has two great options in the 2.0L and 2.5L Sky-Activ engines. The 2.0L has ~155 hp and gets 29/40 mi/gal in the much heavier 3. Put that into the ND and I'd expect to see even better performance and fuel economy numbers due to the light weight. I personally think the 2.5L engine is perfect. 184 hp in a 2200 lb car.

I mentioned the 2.5 last night to Will. Idk if that would be too large of an engine and I see it as unlikely that they will put it in the miata. I HOPE they at the least do the 2.0 but it is still wishful thinking at this point

I think the 2.0L is most likely. 155hp seems perfect given the history of the Miata and the weight of the new one. Plus, the gas mileage!

Despite being the low HP Miata advocate that I am, I wouldn't mind seeing the 2.5 at all. 184hp in a 2250lb car would give it a better power to weight ratio than the MS3. 12.2lbs/hp verus 12.3 for the MS3.

Un-possible. The MS3 is the greatest car ever made!
