**the Official 2010 World Cup Thread**

Damn... why is it strange that I am American and I actually WANT the U.S. to win? They can suck all they want but in the end I'll still cheer first and foremost for the U.S. I find it quite disgusting that many American citizens will put other nations first. I can understand cheering for another country if the U.S. is out/not in the competition, but man, what happened to being proud of your nation?

Because most of the people that like Futbol in the U.S. usually have ties to other countries. I would love for the U.S. to win the World Cup, the whole world would be hating on us............

I do however, hate MLS........

LOL. USA has been notoriously sucky in the past. A few flashes of brilliance here & there....

Before America was interested in soccer the rest of the world had heros of their own from other countries. Club soccer played a huge roll in this since MLS is fairly "new". I've been cheering for Brazil since as long as I can remember (plus I lived the first 10 years of my life in Jamaica where the sport is HUGE).
So there you have it. Most people who have been fans of the sport for a while don't really respect the USA soccer team because everyone in this country follows football baseball basketball and hockey. I played club football and school ball all the way up through varsity...but the popularity was never huge. LOL @ MLS games being half full. Go to s. america or europe and watch a game...its CRAZY!!!

LOL, I don't hate the MLS, I just dislike the schedule and playing style (I prefer the European style).

Either way, I still don't get it. So the following isn't strong here so let's all root for other countries? I played through H.S. as well and while soccer wasn't big at VT I still went and cheered them on!

I can understand ties to other countries but if you're a U.S. citizen c'mon man, you've gotta root for the U.S.! I mean, not doing so is like cheering for some other school (i.e. for U.VA instead of VT *shudder*).

Anyhow, I'm not trying to clutter the thread, I just find it interesting. So here's to two more good matches!

cheering for uva is just plain dumb.

anyhow, i always cheer for the U.S. but if they are out or not playing italy all the way

Subbing - I will admit I am a huge EPL fan but not much MLS.
And the team I support is Fulham, so it was a lot of fun to watch
Dempsey score against Spain yesterday. Yeah, it was likely a fluke,
but it's still a win we can be proud of.

Where is Scott LOL.
South Africa vs. Brazil on espn now.
Would be nice to see SA pull it off.
Chances are slim though.
If the players are anything like the fans...they could suprise some people.

Excellent game...if the Brazilians play the USA like they played the SA's...they are in for a hard time. They were slouchy. I actually was hoping SA would score at one point.
SA deserved this game more.

Spain vs. South Africa. Excellent game so far. SA scored a great goal. Fantastic playing really.

2pm ET USA vs. Brazil.

Wow! If you guys slept in for this game you missed a HELL of a game!!! Guiza (from my fave Turkish club Fenerbahe) scored 2 goals to put up Spain 2-1. A late charge & a hard foul from Spain worked out well for Bafana Bafana.
Mphela scored a bullet free kick. 2-2 regular time. Extra time!!
Go South Africa!

Yeah, really a good game so far. I just wish Spain was playing star players (all of them). No offense to S.A., and they are playing great, but I have a feeling the game would already be over if Spain came out full-strength.

^
What?
Esp started everybody they had. Villa and torres.
It took the subs to come on & score (guiza).

There you go Alonso scored. 3-2 Spain.

Brazil has had some chances and not capitalized.
My stepdad and I were talking this morning after the spain/s.africa match and mentioned that usa has stepped their football game up.
But this is crazy.

2 excellent games so far. This is why I <3 football. Anything can happen!!

Game play really changes when the world cup comes around. Anyway good to see the US playing well. Maybe this will spark more enthusiasm for american soccer.

Anyway hope my country can pull through and play great like last cup in berlin ( i was there !). Anyway VAMOS ECUADOR SI SE PUEDE CARAJO!!
