The Moderately Low (Not Slammed) and Functional Thread

Boo. Well there goes that plan... Why the hell would Mazda only offer the Sport20 with an auto? Lame

But I might disagree with the tranny. I've never had any issues with mine. The tranny is always the weakest link when you have a built motor. Think about it, you build up a motor correctly and you replace the internals. Then you slap a stock tranny on it and blow that up then wonder what happened.

Okay- back on topic. Sorry, gentlemen.

3rd gear is really weak. Known issue with many of the MSP's. Problem is, without spending $5k building a transmission, there's no good solution.

Car makers make components that work for the power levels that they release the car with for the most part. I'll agree that you can blow up even a stock motor or transmission on any car but that is 99.99% of the time a user error. Am I sad that we get motors and transmissions like the protege's that can't handle 200 hp without a good tune while SRT-4's get engines that have made upwards of 600 hp stock? YES. At the end of the day, if you want more power, you need stuff that will handle that power. I can easily see a P5 going as far as a civic as long as it is maintained regularly and not modified. Start modding stuff, and stuff goes wrong. It's simple. Pay to play. It applies to everything in the car scene. The slammed guys tear apart suspension and oil pans, the high HP guys tear apart transmission and engines, and everyone between always has something go wrong.

/end rant

There will always be a weak link in any build. That doesn't mean I shouldn't build it. Why did you guys build your P5's and MSP's if you knew there were weak parts? If you're just gonna b**** about parts being weak then stay stock and baby it. Like Ivan said "gotta pay to play".

Marlon blew up 3rd gear on his MSP. After 104k of track/auto-x miles. Oh no. He better sell the car and stop racing.

I'm tired of all the negativity around here lately (not that this post is helping). If you don't like someones build or car then just shut up about it. Like Thumper said "If you don't got nuthin nice to say, don't say nothin at all.".

^^lol.

but absolutely true. I've been through countless trials and errors. i just keep doing it because i like it. a lot. I've been wondering here and there if i should keep my car, and today, i want to. tomorrow i might not.

on the other note, my STi isn't helping that "keep the protege" decision.hehe

I was just pointing out an unfortunate weakness, not telling you to abandon the whole ******* thing. A weakness can be remedied... just sometimes expensive. Bringing it to light isn't a bad thing to do.

The negativity is all around, and a lot of times, constructive criticism is interpreted as a negative comment, ruffling everyone's feathers. It's one reason why I have next to no desire to even look at the forum anymore. Every time I do, someone says something that pisses me off, makes me grouchy, or is just ******* stupid and annoys me. My personal negativity is about 75% related to that. So with that... I'm backing off of here and only checking what I need to check and update.

or just do what i do, and sit back and laugh at them for being retards.

couldn't you just take a 323 GTX or GTR trans remove the bellhousing and replace it with a 2.0l or in evan and my case a 2.5l bellhousing and you have a 4wd trans? then just need to come up with the rear end, transfer case, and driveshaft. I thought Gseries were Gseries

you would also need to figure out the revised tunnel, floor pans, rear sub-frame, suspension pick-ups, etc. it would be much easier to import a 4wd sport20 than it would be to cobble together with gtx parts.

not saying it would be easy, but it would be a good place to start, although with more thought into it you would need to modify the 2.0l or v6 bellhousing to accept the transfer case and some differences in the differential area.

tell that to anyone who has popped an MSP diff at stock power without abusing it.

Check highlighted text.

Justin, you've got the gears turning about the AWD once again. Pun intended. (Damn, that was a lame joke). I'll continue the AWD ideas in my build thread so I don't clutter this one up anymore.

I wouldn't say that it is a tiny mintority of people who popped a diff in their MSP at stock power levels... so, for the most part, you're lucky if you don't have that joyous experience.

Check highlighted text again. MSP is a low production run car in a minority car maker's lineup.
