The Judge said so....

so i got a ticket a while back in White Plains, NY for tinted windows.
as it turns out when you get your tinting at a shop, sure the tint they sell you is legal, but not in addition to the already factory tinted glass that comes with all vehicles with AC.
SO the judge gave me until 7/23 to show up with a receipt showing that I have the tint removed, or I guess proof that it is done by either myself or photo.

Not wanting to remove the tint, I have been thinking of some round about ways for pleasing the judge.

* Paying a shop for receipt (even have tried paying in advance and saying I will be back in an hour to get lunch so I can get receipt.

* Taking picture of another Black P5 without tint...(but all have been in parking lot of shopping centers...not too realistic.

* Trying to find owner of non tinted black p5 to let me put my plates on their car for quick photo...for a few bucks of course... (have not found one)

* Having one of my fellow board members photo shop my plates on your car with pic of me holding todays news paper????

* removing tint myself (dont want to)
* paying shop $20/ window to do it (only need front two)
* just paying fine ...$105...yikes

anyone been in this situation??? what did you do...

I am open for suggestions

BTW.... here is a state tint guide
http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html

You could have always said that you bought the vehicle out of state with the tint already on... or you could do any of the above

even if car has tint on already, its owners responsibility to abide be local laws..
appreciate the feedback...
anyone own a car shop in NY that can send me a reciept for tint removal...????

Your best bet.....find another car like yours and put the plates on, take pics, don't drive yourself to court, and if you get caught again, say that you just got the tint put back on and the tint shop told you that it was legal tint....

I've been caught for my tint on my windshield. I got a fix-it ticket. Luckily, the State trooper's office is a block away from the tint shop. I got the tint removed, went to the cop shop, they wrote off the ticket and I went right back to the tint shop and got it put back on.

Haven't had any trouble since......

and if you plan on removing the tint, it is very easy to do it yourself, take a razorblade to it and it'll peel right off. use googone on the windows when you are done so that nothing is left behind

Yep, I had the same problem, but here in florida. I just paid the fine it was 47.00. I just pretend i paid 47 dollars extra to get the tint put on, it is worth it cuz i think it makes the p5 look so much better. especially a black one!

yea, that would be the easiest way out of the ones you've listed. luckily for right now, there isnt a tint law in georgia. it was all over the news. i dont know what really happened though. it was funny cause my brother in law ran into the cop that told him to change his tint cause its illegal like 3 moths earlier and the cop remembered him and the cop just looked at him and right before we got into my brother in law's p5 he told the officer "Like my tint??"
its one of those things you have to be there and see.

/threadjack: any one in georgia know what happened????/threadjack

DAMN, I AM NOT SO LUCK TO HAVE ANOTHER BLACK P5 AROUND HERE
AT THAT, I WOULD HAVE TO APPROACH THE PERSON TO DO IT...
THEY WOULD PROBALLY GIVE ME SOME 9-11 SECURITY SPEECH...
how hard is it to take the tint off?

i heard you use vinegar???

if you feel like driving to south jersey i have a black p5 with no tint. i could send you a pic if you like. does the judge want to see the plates?

I think alchohol takes it off. I know you should never clean tinted windows with any alchohol based cleaner. So that might be what removes it.

Alcohol will take off any residue after it's removed, but it won't take it off.
The reason youre not supose to use alcohol, or even worse amonia (sp?) based
cleaners on tinted windows is because they do break down the film slightly,
which can contribute to scratches. Same thing with the anti-glare tint on your
monitor, and projection screen TV's. They work great on glass, but any thing that
is plastic based (lexan, acrylic, tint film, etc.) youre running a big risk.

Best way to remove tint, is to either peal it off with your fingers if it's a
cheap tint job, or use a straight edge razor.

Either do what tom said...

Or remove it yourself. Here's a site. It looks pretty easy, but time consuming and messy.

I am thinking about doing this because I have to remove my current tint in order to replace it with darker tint.
