The Engine Buildup: NEED HELP!!!

BANANA OF FURY
Allright, as many of you know, Mazda has officially F**ked me over. But this isnt a rant thread. I am going to build up the engine, save money, and make it bulletproof at the same time. But I want to present my upgrade plan, and get your opinions on anything that I need to add. I DO need to stay on budget which is under 5000.00.

The Plan:

- MAM Shortblock (Includes Crankwalk fix, oil starvation fix, oliver rods and pistons, core charge, and shipping): 3650.00
- Spec Stage 3 Hybrid Clutch: 369.99 + Shipping
- AWR A/T Rear Mount: 69.00 + Shipping (I have M/T Front Mount)
- Flying Miata O2 Sensor Modifier: 99.99 + Shipping
- Greddy E-Manage w/Ignition and Injector Harness: 340.00 + Shipping

Total: 4527.00 + 800.00 Labor = 5327.00

So I am allready over budget, but thats as far as i'm willing to go.

I am retaining the stock turbo for now. The Stock exhaust system remains (I know thats not good, but I cant do anything about it now).

Current Mods that will be installed along with the above plan:
- PERRIN FMIC w/Type-S
- PERRING SRI
- Greddy Profec B Spec 2
- Greddy Full Auto TT
- Copper NGK

What do you guys think? I know it would be cheaper to just put some internals into the short block, but I dont want crank walk or oil starvation, so I am really set on getting the MAM shortblock. The other thing I was wondering was do I need an upgraded fuel pump at all? We ARE KEEPING the stock turbo for the time being. In terms of boost levels, Beau told me I could basically shut the wastegate completly on their shortblock b/c it can handle all the boost the stock turbo can make and then some.

I need your opinions!!! THANKS!!!!

And if Mazda is reading this.... (upyours) YOU BITCHES!

800.00 labor is not nearly enough. I was looking into having the greddy emanage installed and tuned in my msp and that alone cost around 1000 just for the install not including the e-manage and harnesses. I am dropping my car off on the 6th of December to have the motor built by a local shop here in orlando and I am gonna be paying around 2500 for the work. I will be getting the head o-ringed, cylinders honed, balance job, port and polished head, valve job and the motor pulled shortblock built with cp pistons oliver rods and arp main and head studs and have it reinstalled. That 2500 does not count the 1300 I spent on oliver rods, cp pistons and rod bearings. So I will have about 3800 invested in the motor plus all the money I already have in my supporting mods, and in a couple of months I will be spending another 3k on clutch, gt2871r, axles, intake manifold, and engine management. So with all my supporting mods, my engine build and the 3k I will spend in a couple of months I will have about 11000-12000 invested in the speed. I guess what I am trying to say is if you are trying to do it for cheap you picked the wrong car. You will also need a new lsd after you get all that power so add another 1400 to the list. It will add up quick.

By the way my supporting mods are perrin fmic, custom 3" turbo back with hks carbon titanium muffler, injen intake, greddy profec b spec II, greddy turbo timer, oil pressure gauge, boost gauge, egt gauge, aem wide band o2, awr front and rear motor mounts.

Good luck, if I were you I would be getting a lawyer and would be suing mazda but that's me.

Short block sounds like way too much money. I'd save there and buy a GT28rs. Or get bigger gains by upgrading the exhaust, GHL turbo back for only $995. My racing blocks cost me less than $2500 to have built. Rods, pistons, rings, bearings, sleeves and machine work. The FS you don't even have to sleeve so why are they so much money to build?

i allready looked into suing mazda, but its not an open/close case adn I cant take the risk of investing 7,000 in lawyer fees without a for sure outcome.

800.00 for labor is right, because it is my buddies shop, and he heard what happened, and volunteered to cut his prices in more than half for me.

I'm not looking for power as much, and rock solid, dependablility.

It sounds good so far, but i'd shell out another $250 right now and just get a catless midpipe for now. Upgrade to a turboback later.

Our short blocks are fully machined and deburred.
When we build our motors we do the whole nine yards.

Our short blocks come with:

CP Pistons
CP Gold ring package
Oliver billet rods
Toga bearings
ARP Main studs
ARP head studs

We address the crank walk issuse by having a second thrust bearing machined and installed($400), crank nitrated a second time($100) and then micro polished, line hone, square deck, bored, honed, plateau, all oil gallay's chaffered, full block debur, etc.
We do not bore & hone and put new rods in pistons in.Everything is done to spec and a full build sheet comes with our motors. The customer will know all tolerances and specs.
Our motors are $2995, plus core and shipping.

Is that before tax and shipping or after

yeah, Beau and I talked about it, and he described everything he has done to the block and how much it costs him.,... that is a GREAT deal for all the work done. I'm not kidding.

Looks like I will be picking up the shortblock along with the GT28rs and AEM from you next summer Beau. I was planning to do a lot of the machine work, but if you guys are offering it for that price including pistons and rods I'll save some time.
