The "Device" is here !!

BAHHAAHHAHAHAHA!!!

Linux- I cut my hands to shreads onthat metal plate! I did the ECU swap at night and like I thought my hands were sweating really bad so I shined my maglite on them and they were like covered in blood. It looked like I was wearing red gloves, hehe.

Device installed correctly.. BUT it still pings!! I don't know what the funk to do ... going to take a break now before I freakin snap!!

It might not be pinging.

2 things make similar noise.

1 the boost guage make a close to ping noise. disconnect it and clamp the tube shut and see if its still there. Also the I/C smack the back of the bumber and makes a metal on metal ping. The lower mount of the intercooler needs to be fastened some how but the kit only uses a slit piece of hose.

After about 1 day the hose will move and the I/C will be on just the metal ledge. I used a great hot glue to keep the damn thing in place. I still have to add more glue to the back of the bumper to hold the I/C off the bumper.

Check that peice of hose.

I am going to drill right though the I/C lflange that goes over the split hose and try to use a bolt to fasten the I/C onto the car.

I wish it were that simple guys.

BUT When I'm at 1/2 throtte no pinging pulls fine

When I'm at full throttle definate pinging .

Port you are pinging obviously because of your variables.

Its either your

intake charge

is not getting cooled enough. I am not sure but check with corky to see what the hp levels that setup is meant for.

or

You are running lower than optimum ocate fuel

or

Your altitude

or

Your climate (humidity? heat?).

If you cannot correct the above mentioned variables like using higher octane fuels or moving to Alaska or......you get the point. The only solution to your pinging at WOT is to either
turn down the boost to 5 psi, get a more efficient intercooler (I know I will get flamed for this), use water injection, get a stanalone ecu or start stock barrels of VP racing fuel:)
Realisticaly lowering the boost is the most economical and feasable choice for now.

The odd thing is that at 90 degree temps we were not pinging at 4.5 psi without an intercooler.

I'm running 93 octane in 70 degree weather and low humidity.
And you are at sealevel and 6psi.................hmmm very intersting.
What brand gas are you running?
And are you absolutly sure that its pinging? Does it sound like metal can with fine rocks inside bieng shaked around vigorously?
And do you hear it only at WOT. Are your windows up or down?

Do you have an EGT? or Howabout a good a/f meter like a halmeter? If so what are they reading? And Do you have acess to a dyno that utilizes a wideband? This will probably your best bet to really see whats going on and what a/f your running.
Sorry for all the questions, just tring to help u figure this out.

Is the split hose still in place on the intercooler?

At full throttle it should be impossible to get knock wiwh how rich were running at full throttle.
Whats the full throttle fuel pressure?

Yes whats the fuel pressure at? I imagine that has already been checked.

I have a hard time understanding that your pinging with your set of circumstances. You should be running overly rich with the afpr setup at the boost level.

I run only Amoco Ultimate or Exxon 93.

Yes thats exactly what it sounds like only at WOT and windows up or down you can hear it.

No just a autometer a/f gauge led display. There is a place about an hour from here I guess I'll have to get off one day so I can take it up there.

Ok guys I just checked my fuel pressure again and there is some weird stuff going on ....

Boost / Fuel Pressure

In first gear @4-5 psi half throttle - 60-62 psi

- 5-6 psi full throttle - 55 psi ?

2nd gear 4-5 psi half throttle - 64-66 psi

- 5-6 psi full throttle - 58-62 psi ?

3rd gear 4-5 psi half throttle - 68-72 psi

- 5-6 psi full throttle - 61-63 psi

4th gear 4-5 psi half throttle - 70-74 psi

- 5-6 psi full throttle - 68-70 psi

It pings like crazy in 1st and 2nd gears. I little in 3rd and not at all in 4th or 5th.

:wtf:

Think it needs a fuel pump? and this is AFTER the FM device was installed.

How long would it take to remove the new FM device and recheck these numbers without it. Just to compare.

More fuel at part throatle doesn't suprise me withthis new part thrown into the mix. it should be reveresed with out it. I doubt its the pump becuase if it can hit 70 PSI thats enough for 6 PSI and should be able to be had in any gear.

All in all doesn't sound to lean except for the few under 60 spots. But then what te hell do i know.
Do you still have the P5 ECU in the car?
Did you talk to Bill at FM?

No the MP3 computer is back in ... talked to bill and he going to go step by step w/ me to make sure its all hooked up right only problem is its raining like crazy here right now and I have no shelter... I'm going to a friends house and I'll call him there ... everyone wish Bill luck and patience because I'm no car wiz. The mazda dealership did the install and like I said for the first week I didn't have this problem but ever since then nothin but problems .... I hope its not my FPR either!!

Wish me luck!

I still haven't gotten mine.
I think just Port, Linux and smp have it so far.

I haven't gotten mine yet,,, but I'm about to go home and see if it came. If so, I'll install it tonight and tell you what happens when I go to the dreaded 8 psi!:p
