The Black Mica (16W) Thread

Boosted, that thing is looking gorgeous. When will you show us the new engine bay? (not that there was anything wrong with the old one - still one of the best I've seen!)

what the hell are you guys talking about.. dark grey?? lol really.. if you guys took care of your car and waxed it, used a buffer on it atleast 2 times a year maybe your car would look black all the time.. in my pictures i posted there is NO editing of any kind.. so our car is dark grey in the sun huh??.. wrong!!

Not wrong. It is nowhere near jet black in the sun...hence the "mica" in the name. It's your bad point-and-shoot camera that makes it look black in your photos.

yup im pretty sure mine is jet black all the time.. especially since i wet sanded and re clear coated the whole car 4 times and fixed all imperfections in the paint, and after that it was professionally detailed, waxed, buffed, and alittle bit of color sanding in one spot. but im not going to get in an arguement because you cant wax your good enough or do it properly to make it look black like its suppose to.

FYI a proper wax/buff will enhance the color of the car taking out its faded look or grey tone, if done properly it can make the cars paint look much different in direct sunlight.. but if your still a non believer then go ask a detail moderator or talk to a detail specalist if you think im wrong

That's wierd, I just had it professionally detailed and waxed last week and I can still see the silver fleck in the paint which makes it look gray in the sun. You my friend need your eyes and your ego checked.

ohh my word.. the only one in this whole entire thread to say their car looks grey is you. im gonna leave this alone before i have to bring in some people from the detail mod section to shoot you of your high horse. its not grey at it most certainly does NOT have silver flake in the paint, doesnt look grey at all when properly waxed and buffed.. im done.

Lol, you should re-read the thread. I didn't even weigh in on the "my car looks gray" conversation until just now. You're the only one that insists it looks jet black...apparently because of your mad waxing skills that somehow remove all of the mica fleck from the OEM paint. (blah)

I'm not picking sides but I don't believe our cars are completely black, as I stated before. Sure, you can wax and detail the s*** out of it, sanding and buffing your heart out, or you can just face the OEM fact that it's Black... MICA.

Regardless... we need some more pics and less chit-chat.

the car definitely isn't completely black. i've clayed and waxed mine and yes it's pretty black but in certain conditions it can look a tinge grey and even with a hint of blue (depends on time of day) angle of light also changes the color as well. in most cases its black but i can understand situations where it doesn't look so. never the less the sparkle in the paint can throw you off. if thats how yours looks thats how it looks, if someone elses looks different its not because they can't wax correctly, its just how it is. my brothers rx-8 is jet black and you can see the difference in the blackness between the black mica and it.

i for one like that it isn't jet black, with it being black mica it hides some blemishes in the paint due to the flecks.

yes, thank you. i knew i wasnt crazy lolz :p

boosted, nothing against your opinion (i think your car looks awesome) but i mean itll look a whole lot better (as well as blacker) if you re-clearcoat 4 times obviously. im just saying, when i bought the car it was sitting next to a black maxima and that car was definitely 5Xs darker/blacker. that is all.

Hahaha.. I clean it pretty often and really try to keep it nice. I did however get the front bumper and hood touched up.

I need to take some new pics though... I think it's all about what time of the day you take the photos to be honest. Lighting has such a big impact, basiclaly changes the entire appearance of your car.

Been a long winter! Came out of storage today, needs a good wash. Loving the RX8 wheels! But should of went wider then 225/40/18
