Ok - as most of you know - I'm a slave to the dollar.
I just got a job offer. Mon-Wed Noon to 8pm, Sat & Sun 8am-8pm (= 48 hours)
This would be roughly 100 miles per day on my car (5 days a week)
I would get no vacation or sick time (well, no paid time), and no benefits unless I pay for them out of pocket.
I'm a consultant at this place (the above)on the weekends currently making 32/hr working the two 12 hour shifts. Currently I work during the week for 43k/annual. I have 3 weeks vacation/1 week sick/ 1 week personal, plus another week of Miscellaneous Approved days off. I have 401k setup currently (they contribute $.05 for every $100) which I could move to a Roth IRA or something similar.
Basically - I am currently making 85k. I love both jobs - each have their plus's and minus's. If I make the switch - I lose my scheduled paid vacation/sick/personal time - I gain 2 days off every week. Money stays about the same. Probably a little higher if I make the switch(extra hours when I can get them).
Now the risk factor. My main job might not pay much - but it's a steady reliable job. If I make this switch, I will be consulting full-time at one job. Right now I have my finances setup so that if I lose one job - I'm still ok. I party with the other half of my salary - lose one job - just tone down the party antics and cut a few of my extra bills and I'm ok. If I do this - and I lose the job, I'm ass out - then again I've been working a long time and unemployment would kick in. (**** THAT s*** - I WORK - I have no intentions of losing my job). There is always the chance that this larger company that wants to hire me goes public - in which case anything can happen.
Ugh, I'm pretty sure I want those two days off and the possibility of more money. Is it worth sacrificing my vacation/sick/personal days?
Input please!!!!
