The $1000 Audio Challenge!!!!!

$1000? WTF can you get for $1K?

If you read the whole thread, you can obviously get alot for $1K with a warranty and a hell of alot more for that $1K without a warranty from ebay or other online sources. The drill was to get the best you can with a warranty from Authorized dealers for under $1k.

Where did you get all your stuff, how much it cost you and what are your goals for your system? SPL? SQ? Shows? Competitions? None of this exercise was set up for that.

Here's what's going in my PR5:

HU: venerable Pioneer Premier DEX-P1R
Processor: RF EPX/2 Symmetry (14 channels!!)
Front/rear stage amps: Phoenix Gold ZX450's 1 channel per driver
Sub Stage Amp: Phoenix Gold ZX350 or 500 (got 350, looking for a 500)
Subs: JL 10W6-6 DVC
Speakers: MB Quart 6.5's with MB Tweets rear/JL Tweets front

All i need is the ZX450 and maybe the ZX500. And then, finish the box
design. Then, figure out where to put all that crap, with totally giving up the hatch area.

This thread is to list out the components of a system that can be built for under $1000 that is capable and flexible. Few people want to dedicate there car to audio not to mention most have better things to spend there money on. This thread is to help those getting into car audio that don't have a tone of cash but want some good ideas to start with.

For a great sounding system under $1000 shipped, I'd do the following:

(1) Alpine CDA-9805 - $181 shipped from Crutchfield (includes installation accessories). Great HU as a foundation for the system with pleanty of room for expansion (three 4v pre-outs, XM-ready, and lots of tweakability)

(2) Lanzar Vibe 438 - $133 shipped from Ikesound. The front channels will run the components up front and give them a [rated] 175x2. The rear channels will be bridged to the sub for [rated] 600w. I think the power ratings may be a little exaggerated, but you'll still get an honest 100x2 up front and 400w for the sub at 12V.

(3) CDT Components - CL-61a - $150 shipped. Some nice components for the front doors at a great bang for the buck price.

(4) Blueprint 1202 - $97 + shipping = $125 [estimated]. An Xmax of 16mm one-way and the ability to take 600w while providing top notch SQ makes it a great budget sub that will sound great and still be able to play pretty darn loud.

(5) 4GA Four Channel Wiring Kit from www.knukonceptz.com - about $40 shipped. It includes everything needed to wire everything up (power, patch cables, speaker wire, fuse holder, fuse, etc.)

(6) MDF, screws, liquid nails, some accessories from www.partsexpress.com (carpet, terminal cup, etc.) to build a custom box and amp rack - about $50.

(7) Sound dampening material for the doors, trunk, trunk lid, and, rear parcel shelf. Polymeric Mastic from www.mcmaster.com - $15/sheet. 5 sheets would be way more than enough - about $100 shipped.

Grand Total Including Shipping = $779

lol, if you are ver resourceful all you need is some glue and nails(naughty) for speaker wire use the power cord off some old electronic device(2thumbs)

im bored at work (1AM) so im going to make another system lol
the system uses 3-way 6.5" speakers all around this system is made for a P5
the fronts are 5x7 but you can EASILY make a bracket from the holes from cut from subwoofer box sub holes
its easier to make it all one brand name so you have more space for decals on your car

Surface material?
I atleast 3/4" MDF or 3/4" birtch plywood for box and anything that needs strength. Something like a false floor I typicly use 1/2 MDF or Birtch ply. Beauty boards can be 1/4" if then don't need any real strength.
