Testing new NO CEL method on catless cars

(2thumbs)

actually if your interested im selling my O2 sensor with the apexr1 MIL already installed. if your interested please pm me and we can work something out

hmm I seemed to have missed this earlier, so yeah an update would be nice

Yes, this is a very good route to go if you don't want to be soldering connections or buying a 20 dollar mil elminator. Just go to autozone get the non foulers and screw that onto your bung. I was afraid it wouldn't work but it works fine. Best thing about it is you can go back to stock anytime you want.

(mswerd) I heard about this from one of my wrx friends, I'll try it out when I get my perrin exhaust around xmas. So...what exactly had to be drilled? The sparkplug nonfoulers?

they are called spark plug anti-foulers. i have them on my msp w/ corksport exhaust. use the 18mm ones and just drill out the bottom of one of them with a 1/2" drill bit (do not cut it off) and screw them into each other. it creates a chamber outside the main exhaust fow for the o2 to get a proper reading. suby guys have been doing this for a while with no cel/mil.
weeeeeeeeeeeee

Just take one of the foulers and drill through it with a half inch bit so they tip of the o2 sensor can fit through it.

Later this week, im gonna be testing out a new way to prevent a CEL when you have a catless exhaust. Its a trick alot of WRX guys are using, and its how i think the shop that made gcotton's exhaust got around the CEL.
The good thing is, theres no wiring or anything, and it just screws on to the existing o2 sensor and bung, and the parts are available at autozone.
I'll have a parts list and simple how to up in the next few days...
Couple of people have talked about this...But does it work? The car can throw a cel anytime..most people who don't use any fix..will get the cel sooner..than others.

I hope this works out..please be sure to do a write up!

Update from KYRacefan? I would just loooove to use this option with my new GHL catless downpipe.....OOOooooOOOOOoooooo

Its a proven insta-fix for the problem. It allows your car to maintain its checks on the exhaust gasses and maintain good fuel ratios.

This is a pictoral view of what everyone is saying - form my kitchen counter.

So far great for me - over 80 miles and no CEL. Car runs within emissions levels ect. - I even have better gas milage.

Purchase the Help brand spark plug anti-foulers from an autozone near you (any type with 18mm threads) and using a 1/2 inch drill bit drill one of the 2 out to 1/2 inch. only drill 1. The two are then threaded together non drilled on the "bottom" (drilled threaded into non-drilled) to form the extension seen in my above pics. The extension is then threaded into your chosen exhaust (Circuit Sports in my case) and your totally unmolested O2 sensor into the extension from the top. All in all - about a 45 min job to swap out pipes add the drilled extension and button up the system (for me last sat at least)

Never screw with the wiring man - this is cheap easy and doesnt effect the car in any negative way and can be removed at any time with no residual effects.

But the real question is WHY does this work? It seems to just raise the O2 sensor out of the exhaust flow. Why would that not make it throw a CEL?

The heat will make the O2 active, but since it's out of the more laminar flow, that means less poloutants get to the O2 sensor, and thusly, it thinks the air is catalyzed.
