I am considering purchasing a test pipe before winter hits, and i was curious on which ones other people have. if you know anything about specific makes or models id appreciate any help. also, what were the gains you experienced? and specific numbers would help as well. the ones i have looked at are from protegegarage and street_unit. thanks for your help, and for looking

All of them are about the same. I would check the classifieds on this and the other two sites. You can get a good bargain. No need to buy new.

I have the TurboXS race pipe and its worked fine for me. No problems with leaks or installation. I kinda regret having it because now I have to worry about taking it into the dealer. So i uninstall it every time I go for service.

is there a difference between a race pipe, and a test pipe?

Some people have reported fitment issues depending on what kind of exhaust you're running. If you'll be running the stock exhaust & downpipe, you should consider the SU test pipe as it fits perfectly and has given me zero problems since I installed it. Corksport's TP is one that seems to have problems with the stock exhaust and works best with their own catback.

(eek2) ^ that's the first time I've ever read that about the CS test pipe. The only issues I've read about the CS is that the bolts that they provide is too short. However, I've read a couple issues members having with the Turbo XS and their quality.

OP posted he was looking at the progete garage ones. I dont believe they sell or make them at protege garage, but I have a used PG test pipe from them and it fits pretty nicely. It's a bit large in the donut area where it mates to the catback portion, as i believe the PG pipe is 3-inch while the stock catback it either 2 or 2.25 inches. But you can make it fit.

As far as gains, I dont have the cash to go dyno after every mod. It's nothing drastic, perhaps 10 whp but then again its nothing you would notice as being extreme. I did it mainly for the sound and the minor gain. You WILL feel it in the higher rpm range if you floor it, that extra ooompfff will kid in

I think the CS mid pipe would be a good choice for me since the only other exhaust mod I'm gonna do til my 6 year warrenty is up is cbe. Hopefully it will fit up alright to the stock dp and the stock cbe until I get the cbe

I got the CS test pipe from PG and the quality is A+. It gives a nice sound and better top end. Once its installed you can pop it on and off in about 15 mins. Don't forget to remove all the bracing under the car before you do the job then its cake. The directions from CS dont tell you to do this but I had called them and a mechanic that works for them told me to do that. I told him it dosn't say that in the directions and he said they would fix it. Who knows.

the corksport test pipe for the mazdaspeed6 is great. we swapped a catless straight pipe for the corksport pipe on a speed6, and the performance was the same, but the corksport made the car sound much better thanks to the resonated section.

Gut the mid cat. It's free and will fit perfectly.
Free if you're never have any reason to want the cat back on. Such as selling the car, returning it to stock form for warranty work, having to pass an emissions inspection where you need both, to name a few reasons that spring to mind.

Some have had issues with the CS not matching up to the stock CBE, as noted earlier. I have the SU and had no such no issues. I think CS reuses the stock donut on the bottom joint and there are some sizing issues? The SU omits the donut, using instead a rounded metal surface that mates up well.
